It may look like a toy , but as ma always said, it’s what’s underneath that counts. It’s not often that those old adages prove true in consumer electronics, but such is the case with Pentax’s newest entry-level DSLR . The K-r ($800 in kit form) is positioned between the K-x and K-7 , and according to PhotographyBLOG , it fits perfectly there. They felt that the compact design was a boon for newcomers to the field who wouldn’t be keen on lugging around anything of size, and most importantly, the image quality was said to be “excellent.” Of course, low light performance began to suffer at ISO levels north of 800, so those interested in ditching the grain and blur after dark will still need to spend a bit more on a prosumer model like the Nikon D7000 . The wide range of manual controls were also a hit, but considering that the HD video mode is identical to that on the lower-end K-x, you’ll be forced to deal with a less-than-stellar UI. We’d suggest hitting the source link for the full skinny, but we’ll go ahead and spoil the ending: it managed a Highly Recommended badge. Continue reading …Hard to say if this is the direct (or indirect) replacement to the Creative X-Fi2 we toyed with 13 months ago, but the new Zen Touch 2 has snuck out behind the cover of two ZiiO touch tablets . This here PMP sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Android 2.1 underneath, Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, an accelerometer, inbuilt speaker, two megapixel camera, microSD card slot, GPS, digital compass, FM radio tuner and a run-of-the-mill plastic enclosure. That last bit is according to Pocket-lint ‘s brief hands-on with the device, noting that the touch panel is of the resistive variety and the user interface was jumpy and problematic to say the least. It’ll be landing soon in 8GB and 16GB sizes for S$279 ($216 in Greenbacks) and up, but we get the impression that price and availability may not matter much in the grand scheme of things. Continue reading …Just when a Tokyoflash watch has reached the pinnacle of unreadability , it looks like the company has scaled things back slightly — very, very, very slightly. Kisai’s Wasted watch makes “your senses [come] alive” by turning the time display into a sort of psychedelic light show, one that it would take a modern day Timothy Leary to decode. It’s apparently supposed to simulate some sort of hallucinatory state, although we’re guessing that it’s much more likely to give you a migraine. Rechargeable via USB, and available now for $85 plus shipping. Turn on, tune in, and click the source link to get started — or peep the video after the break if you’re uncertain, man. Continue reading …There is a fine line between tasteful political comedy and crossing-the-line crudeness, and the Huffington Post’s new song “My Girl's A Republican” just leaped over that line. With lyrics such as “Dick Nixon sucking lips” and “she made her oil money last, and now I’m tapping it,” even the most liberal among us could agree that the attack on Republican women is downright revolting. Hailed as an “ode to right-wing ladies,” the three and a half minute song and video by Rap duo “It’s The Real” (and proudly displayed on the Huffington Post Web site) does nothing but smear conservative women like Christine O’Donnell, Michele Bachmann, and of course, Sarah Palin. The HuffPo write up on the “tribute to conservative women” song claims “it does a pretty solid job of both mocking and admiring right-wing conservatives.” (Video below the fold) read more
