Lawrence “Crazy Larry” O'Donnell was back to his former self during MSNBC's Election Night coverage Tuesday. During the 9 p.m. EDT hour O'Donnell claimed that if Rand Paul would not vote as senator to raise the debt ceiling, it would destroy the United States' credit rating and possibly spark a worldwide depression. O'Donnell also pressed House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on the matter. After Cantor refused to give O'Donnell a direct answer to his oddball question, the frustrated MSNBC host ranted that he didn't want to see Cantor on MSNBC again. In the beginning segment, O'Donnell was giving commentary after live coverage of Rand Paul's victory speech. Paul, he noted, will soon be pressed to vote on raising the debt ceiling, something which O'Donnell asserted is vital to the health of the U.S. economy.
Continue reading …You’ll read about many a wonder at CES this January, but you can cross the OLPC XO-3 off the list — One Laptop Per Child founder Nicholas Negroponte told PC World that the slate’s debut has been pushed back roughly 45 days, until the middle of February instead. Whether the Marvell Moby-based tablet turns out to be a sexy, paper-thin device or a chunky contraption wasn’t discussed, but Negroponte did have a simple explanation for the delay — he needed a suitable surface to cover that probable Pixel Qi touchscreen . “The issue has been really finding an unbreakable material,” he said, hinting that “it may be glass or some flavor of glass,” rather than plastic as originally planned . Might we suggest a taste test at the Corning laboratories, Mr. Negroponte? We hear they have a Gorilla that does quite nicely . Video after the break. Continue reading …We received an interesting email from Ripxx this morning, stating that due to an unprecedented outpouring of comments on our previous post for its sports GPS , the company’s gone and developed its very own iPhone app. That’s right, instead of planning your ski trips around a piece of dedicated hardware, you can now do it on the same device you use to read Texts From Last Night while sitting on the loo. The Ripxx iPhone Ski App, as it’s called, features trail maps from over 200 North American ski resorts, Google Maps integration, the ability to track time, speed, distance, and vertical drop for your various trips down the mountain. Whatever that means. But hey — it’s only five bucks! And it’s available now. Video after the break. Continue reading …You may not be able to build an HRP-4C fembot in your average garage, but the programming would practically take care of itself — not only does the AIST humanoid sing using off-the-shelf Yamaha Vocaloid software, its dance moves are click-and-drag, too. Roboticist Dr. Kazuhito Yokoi gave IEEE Spectrum an inside look at the HRP-4C’s motion trajectory software, which works much like 3D animation tools: you position the limbs where you want them to start and when you want them to end up using keyframes , and the software takes care of the rest. The system’s intelligent enough to generate a 6.7 second sequence from just eight keyframes, and it compensates for hazardous instructions, too — if your haphazard choreography would tip her over or send limbs flying, it’ll automatically adjust her moves. See how it works in a video after the break and hit up our source link for the full interview.
