GameString Adrenalin turns your Google TV into a game streamer, will WoW your couch (video)

We like the Google TV , we really do, we just think it needs another few months in the oven before it’s really going to rock anyone’s world. It won’t just be Google that makes or breaks it, though, and innovative uses like GameString Adrenalin are certainly going to help. That site offers what it calls “Personal Cloud Gaming,” letting you stream the output from seemingly any game on your PC to a browser, where it can be played on a number of devices. Chrome within the Google TV is just one of them, but given how something like a Revue comes with a keyboard and is usually attached to a big display it seems like a good choice. We can’t be sure what the lag is like when playing in this way, but the video embedded below does make it look pretty snappy — though hopefully the service doesn’t force you to listen to the same classic Prodigy that trailer does. Right now the service is in free beta, so have at it at the source link. Jimmy Carter: Fox News Implants ‘Completely False Images’ of President Obama

Former President Jimmy Carter on Sunday claimed that Fox News implants “completely false images” of Barack Obama while also distorting the facts about legislation before Congress. Speaking to Howard Kurtz on CNN's “Reliable Sources,” Carter practically blamed all of the current president's problems in the polls on the cable news network (video follows with transcript and commentary): read more

Real politically savvy bunch they had there in Washington yesterday (from The Daily Caller ): Most attendees The Daily Caller interviewed at Comedy Central political pundits Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s rally to “Restore Sanity and/or Fear” didn’t know for whom they are voting on November 2. They did, however, know they’re voting Democrat, down the line, because, they said, Republicans don’t fit their mold of “moving forward” in the country. For instance, Liz Pifer, a student at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pa., told TheDC that though she plans to vote in the midterm elections on Tuesday, she didn’t know who was running for Pennsylvania’s open Senate seat. She later said that she thought Joe Sestak was running, and that she’ll probably vote for him because he’s a Democrat. As for House candidates, she said, “I don’t know who’s running.” Tara Formica, a junior in college in New Jersey, told TheDC she’s not sure if she’ll vote on Tuesday, and that “it kind of just depends.” She said she came to the rally Saturday “just to come,” and that she didn’t know who was running in her district. Jared Young, a California resident who attended the rally with fellow William and Mary student Chris McIntosh, told TheDC he already voted via absentee ballot in California’s heated Senate and Governor races – but not for Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, Barbara Boxer or Jerry Brown. He said he wrote himself in on the ballot for the Senator seat and voted for the Green Party candidate in the governor race – even though he had no idea who the candidate was. “I’m not kidding,” Young said. “I really did that.” McIntosh, who is registered in Virginia, said he plans vote Tuesday for Democratic candidates down the line, even though he doesn’t know who they are. Melissa Miller, who came to rally from Texas with her husband Tom, said, told TheDC she’s voting for the Democrat House candidate, but couldn’t name the candidate from her district. “I was mostly paying attention to the governor’s race,” Miller said. And then there’s this: Anti-Tea-Party-ness and anger toward Fox News dominated most signs at the rally on the National Mall, a clear fit for comedian Stewart’s jabs at what he calls extremism. Shoshana Senn, 15, of Arlington, Va., thinks Tea Partiers are “dumb.” I’ll bet most Tea Partiers could have named who they were voting for.

Hundred Year Starship Initiative plans to put people on Mars by 2030, bring them back by… well, never (video)

For a while now, there has been a conversation going on in certain circles (you know, space circles): namely, if the most prohibitive part of a manned flight to Mars would be the return trip, why bother returning at all? And besides the whole “dying alone on a hostile planet 55-million-plus kilometers from your family, friends, and loved ones” thing, we think it’s a pretty solid consideration. This is just one of the topics of discussion at a recent Long Now Foundation event in San Francisco, where NASA Ames Research Center Director Pete Worden discussed the Hundred Year Starship Initiative, a project NASA Ames and DARPA are undertaking to fund a mission to the red planet by 2030. Indeed if the space program “is now really aimed at settling other worlds,” as Worden said, what better way to encourage a permanent settlement than the promise that there will be no coming back — unless, of course, they figure out how to return on their own. Of course, it’s not like they’re being left to die: the astronauts can expect supplies from home while they figure out how to get things up and running. As Arizona State University’s Dr. Paul Davies, author of a recent paper in Journal of Cosmology , writes, “It would really be little different from the first white settlers of the North American continent, who left Europe with little expectation of return.” Except with much less gravity. See Worden spout off in the video after the break. HTC Desire HD vs. EVO 4G… fight!

By now you’ve probably read our Desire HD review and you’ve seen how HTC’s latest Android flagship stacks up against its Windows Phone 7 sibling, the HD7 . But how does it fare against the original Android giant, Sprint’s EVO 4G ? The devices share common displays (4.3-inch WVGA) and cameras (8 megapixel with dual LED flash) — but they use different radios (HSPA+ versus CDMA / WiMAX) and processors (first-generation Snapdragon in the EVO, second-gen in the Desire). In fact, the two phones actually have very different personalities when you consider the Desire HD’s aluminum unibody case and the EVO 4G’s HDMI output and kickstand. Take a look at these mighty beasts side-by-side in our gallery — along with a video after the break! Note: In the video we mention that the Desire HD features a front facing camera. This is incorrect. Gallery: HTC Desire HD vs. EVO 4G… fight! Continue reading HTC Desire HD vs. EVO 4G… fight! Canon PowerShot G12 scores predictably glowing review

If it’s a pocketable PowerShot and its name begins with ‘G’ you can be pretty sure it’ll be a good performer, and Canon ‘s latest is no exception. The $499 G12 is the sequential successor to the G11 and, as is typical for the range, it isn’t a revolutionary leap forward. The G12 makes use of its predecessor’s 10 megapixel sensor situated behind the same 5x zoom lens and offering the same suite of full manual controls. New this year is a 720p24 video recording mode with stereo mics, finally bringing this camera into the HD age — but sadly doing so without use of that zoom. Also new is an HDR mode, stitching together three photos to make those vampires hiding in the shadows really pop. According to Photography Blog those improvements plus a few other niceties make this a particularly solid compact, even if its chunky dimensions as ever push the definition of that term. This is kind of surprising: Hispanics are growing more divided about how they view illegal immigration, and native-born Hispanics aren’t as convinced of the contributions of illegal immigrants as they used to be, according to a study released Thursday. Hispanics are split when asked to assess the effect of illegal immigration on Hispanics living in the United States: 29% say it has had a positive impact, 31% negative and 30% believe it made no difference, according to the study by the non-partisan Pew Hispanic Center. That is a sharp decline from a 2007 survey, when 50% of Hispanics said illegal immigrants were having a positive impact. If anyone was counting on this issue to help swing Hispanics to Democrats they may have miscalculated. It could be backfiring on them.
