WiMAX 2 , the sequel to the movie most people haven’t watched, is back to tease and tantalize us courtesy of Samsung’s new CEATEC demo. Filling four separate HDTVs with streaming Full HD and 3D content, the Korean manufacturer of everything electronic is touting its latest advance in mobile broadband connectivity that takes the top speed up to 330Mbps. That may only be a third of the theoretical max capability of WiMAX 2, but you know, we’ll take it for now. The good news is that Samsung’s innovation brew extends only to the conduits between WiMAX devices, meaning that your current-gen transceiver will be able to join the accelerated party as and when Samsung’s ready to dish out the goods. With the 802.16m standard expected to be ratified by next month, Samsung projects its first commercial solutions will be landing in late 2011. Consider our calendars marked. Looking a bit like a myTouch 3G Slide sans slide, the newly-announced myTouch — yes, just “myTouch” — is the latest addition to the consumer-centric side of T-Mobile’s Android lineup, featuring a 3.8-inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel primary camera with 720p capture, and a next-gen MSM8255 Snapdragon core running at 1GHz. Notice how we said “primary camera”? Yep, it’s true: the myTouch features a second, front-facing cam as well, becoming the first phone from T-Mobile (and one of the first in the States, of course) to offer video calling. Looks like it’ll be supported over both WiFi and 3G using Qik and Yahoo Messenger, so you’ll be able to see the beautiful faces of your EVO -sporting friends from afar. Like the G2 , it’s got full support for T-Mobile’s up-and-coming HSPA+ network along with 802.11n and Android 2.2 out of the box. We don’t have pricing or a launch date yet, but we’re told it’ll be available “in time for the holidays” in your choice of four scintillating colors: white, black, plum, and red. If there was any scrap of doubt in your mind, we’ll obliterate it for you right now — October 11th is the day Windows Phone 7 will be unveiled in the US , not just at a fancy London event… and wonder of wonders, T-Mobile’s the star of the show. Looks like AT&T won’t be launching Metro UI handsets all alone, eh? The event agenda clearly states there will be “an exclusive showing of T-Mobile powered Windows Phone 7 devices” at 3:30PM EST, and you can bet your britches we’ll be there live to cover the whole thing. Did you have a Verizon phone sans data plan, but get billed for data anyhow? Verizon Wireless is dropping $90 million to make things right next month. The New York Times reports that the company will refund 15 million cellular customers who were wrongly charged for internet use, in the form of $2 to $6 credits on their next bill — unless the fiasco already caused you to leave, in which case you’ll get a similar check in the mail. The FCC reportedly pressured Verizon into this settlement following hundreds of complaints, so it looks like the squeaky wheel may have won this round. If you can call Verizon treating you to the equivalent of a latte a “win,” of course. Last time we heard from ExoPC on the availability front it had opened pre-orders to its forum members and set a ship date of October 15 . It breaks our heart to relay this, but as we predicted could be the case, the company is now reporting some delays. According to founder Jean-Baptiste Martinoli, many of the PVT samples had serious touchscreen issues, and as a result it’ll only be shipping one hundred 32GB units come that October date. The plan is to then ship 400 of the 32GB and 64GB units by the first week in November, and then completely catch up by mid-November. It’s a bold promise, but he’s assured us that there’s now a new manufacturer that’s able to provide the same configuration options in a more timely and issue-free fashion. If you happen to have ordered one you’ve probably already reached for the tissues, but at least you’ll be getting a free stylus and three-legged stand to ease the pain when your 11.6-inch, Atom-powered tablet shows up. However, despite the delays, ExoPC still seems to be trucking along quite nicely on the partnership end — a company in Portugal will be bringing to market an ExoPC powered Mobi-1 and others are in the works. We’ll be keeping you updated on anything else we hear, whenever we find the time — we can’t promise we won’t be spending our waking hours checking the mailbox, hoping for our review unit to arrive. Now that your AT&T-locked Samsung Galaxy S can occasionally find satellites , you’re probably hoping that the carrier kicks out some creamy Froyo as well, and it looks like that day isn’t far away — an unofficial but seemingly feature-complete Android 2.2 build is available for the Captivate right now . The faithful fiends at xda-developers have got build UCJI6 ready for download, which brings a mobile hotspot, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, the JIT compiler, Media Hub support, and a host of UI tweaks to boot. Instructions are available at the links below to walk you through the process, assuming you’ve already got root , have backed up all your files and are willing to take the risks in case this leaked build isn’t as official as it seems . Continue reading …We’ve already seen the phone itself in the wild , and the folks over at Droid Life have now gotten their hands on what appears to be an early version of the HTC Merge / Lexicon user guide. While there’s not a ton of surprises to be found, it does further confirm the inclusion of Bing (and Bing Maps), and the fact that it is indeed a global phone. What’s more, Droid Life notes that any mention of the phone’s name seems to have been left out, suggesting that HTC hasn’t yet completely decided whether to call it the Merge, Lexicon or something else — the site seems confident that it won’t be called “Droid,” however, although it says it’s heard “murmurs” that was once under consideration. The way we saw it, it was Moleskine vs. the inevitable march of 1s and 0s that would eventually consume us all. No longer (actually, Moleskine already sells a Kindle cover, but we’re temporarily ignoring that for argument’s sake). Moleskine just announced a Digital Covers line of hybrid notebooks that include a pad of regular, “legendary” notebook paper alongside a cozy spot for your i-device of choice. Will this combination (some might say compromise ) make you smarter, your prose more concise, your beard more intellectual? Of course it will. But at what cost? Sure, literature survived the decline of penmanship with the emergence of Mark Twain and his typewriter, and Douglas Adams championed the Macintosh to no end, but now that Moleskine has gone and sullied its own reputation we’re finally ready to just go ahead and say it: the novel is dead.
