In most dystopian visions of an overpopulated future, the office and residential towers are vertical and the few parks are horizontal. Kang Woo-Young has another idea, presented on Evolo. He imagines: a future where nature has been eradicated from the modern urban landscape, and must be replaced with a man-made landscape. To combat a sea of typical skyscrapers, Woo-Young has designed a building that stacks “memories of nature,” and mimics the natural world’s patterns by blending mathe… Read the full story on TreeHugger
Continue reading …As well they should be : In a potential sign of Democratic unease with the White House midterm political strategy, some of President Obama’s allies have begun to question his sustained attack on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has long claimed bipartisanship but is being increasingly identified as a GOP ally. Some Democrats on Capitol Hill worry that the White House is going too far in charging that the politically powerful business lobby may be using foreign money to fuel its election efforts. The charge ignites strong feelings among job-hungry voters. But Democrats are concerned that it may be overstated and could harm moderate Democrats in swing districts. Not only is the charge overstated, it’s completely false. And coming from Obama and Biden it’s hilarious, given their history of taking millions of foreign donations through all sorts of schemes. The Chamber of Commerce represents American business, and we know how much today’s Democrats hate anything that might possibly make a profit. However, most Americans don’t see this as an attack on a political opponent, they see it as an attack on the American way and the neighborhood businesses they support. I half expect Obama and Biden to come out against Mom and apple pie next.

Parker continued the Tea Party movement was the result of the GOP “catering” to such elements and that ” the kooks have come home to roost .” The pseudo-conservative columnist returned to her old habit of attacking conservatives during a panel discussion with Reason magazine's Nick Gillespie and NPR contributor John Ridley minutes into the 8 pm Eastern hour. Gillespie criticized how both Republicans and Democrats handled the past decade: “It's really awful, and we had- you know, six years of Republican rule, which was awful and disastrous on every level, and everything since then has been equally bad.” The writer continued with a commentary on the phenomenon of Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell selection in Delaware: read more

BC Hydro converted two shipping containers into lovely little apartments with glass walls; In one, an actor has blazing lights, big TV and a computer running, while in the other, the actor follows the typical TreeHugger recommended regime of turning off lights, reading by the plentiful natural light. Giant meters display their respective consumption; truly a power struggle…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

Not only does it boast a 50% reduction in power consumption compared to some traditional one-armed manufacturing robots, but it’s able to learn new tasks simply by having someone move its arm through the motions. It also supposedly has an “affordable” price, although we’re guessing it’s still a bit out of reach if you’re just looking for something to help out around the house. Head on past the break to check it out in action.
