Sony Ericsson brings 16 megapixel Cyber-shot S006 cellphone to KDDI

KDDI may have done its best to bury it amongst the few dozen other phones it announced today (including that eye-catching X-RAY clamshell ), but we’re not about to let the first phone using Sony’s new 16.4 megapixel CMOS sensor slip by. That honor naturally goes to Sony Ericsson itself, which has stuffed the sensor into the otherwise ordinary looking Cyber-shot S006 cellphone. In addition to all those megapxiels, you’ll also get ISO settings up to ISO 12800, and the rest of the camera’s specs aren’t too shabby either, including a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.3-inch screen (said to be VGA, though we’re assuming it’s actually HVGA or WVGA), and built-in WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. Unfortunately, all of that is paired with Sony’s own proprietary non-smartphone OS and it’s, of course, exclusive to KDDI in Japan for the time being (and only being released next spring). Sony Ericsson brings 16 megapixel Cyber-shot S006 cellphone to KDDI originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 12:59:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink

Is BP Backing Out of Agreement to ‘Pay Whatever is Necessary’ in Gulf?

Photo: Infrogmation , Flickr, Creative Commons BP Seeking to Limit Damages to $75 Million in Gulf? Oh boy. Everybody’s favorite Gulf of Mexico-soiling oil giant has just dropped something of a bombshell. Well, it would certainly turn out to be a massive bombshell if it’s true: BP’s attorney has just suggested that the company may seek to invoke the clause in the 1990 Oil Pollution Act that limits polluting companies’ liability in a disaster to $75 million. That’s ri… Read the full story on TreeHugger

In Defence of LEED: Stop Bashing the Bike Racks!

Image Credit: Steven Vance LEED stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design , so Henry Gifford (who is suing the USGBC ) and others feel free to complain that it doesn’t save enough energy. That’s fine, but every time they do complain, they bring up the bike racks; it has become the standard bash. An example: Joseph Lstiburek of Building Science Corp … Read the full story on TreeHugger

And it will hand the House majority over to the GOP : Seven months ago Speaker Nancy Pelosi spent a busy week rounding up votes to pass the Senate version of the Democrats’ health care legislation. It wasn’t easy. She had to get Democrats who had voted no in November to switch to yes in March. And she had to get Democrats who had refused to vote for the bill in November without an anti-abortion amendment to vote for a bill in March that lacked that language. She took the unusual step of scheduling the roll call for Saturday — so members wouldn’t go back to their districts and be besieged by Obamacare opponents. Those opponents, according to polls at that time, included most American voters. But Pelosi, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton predicted the bill would become more popular after it was passed (and, Pelosi said, after people had a chance to read it). National polls indicate that hasn’t happened yet. But what about the districts of the House Democrats who cast the key votes that made Obamacare law? Those Democrats have an interest in persuading constituents of the law’s merits. So how are they doing? In general, not very well. You can read the rest of the post for examples of individual Democrats who are giving up their political careers for Obamacare and Nancy Pelosi. If the Democrats take the kind of beating expected on Nov. 2nd what’s going to happen to Pelosi? Her arm-twisting is directly responsible for the passage of Obamacare and the loss of the House. How can she possibly continue in any form of House leadership? Generally, when the majority shifts control the ousted leader resigns from Congress. I don’t think Pelosi has that level of integrity, but what are they going to do with her – just let her be the crazy old lady with stories about how she used to run things? The post-election period will be pretty interesting between the lame-duck shenanigans and the leadership battles that are sure to take place.

A mountain goat in Olympia Washington. When Boardman attempted to scare the goat away, giving his company an opportunity to escape, it gored him in the leg. He was taken by helicopter to the nearest helicopter, here he was pronounced dead. Tragic, to be sure. But … Read the full story on TreeHugger
