Palm Pre 2 hits FCC in CDMA and North American GSM flavors

So the Pre 2 has been announced for SFR in France and Verizon in the States, along with an unlocked model for developers… but so far, we’d only seen one of the three in the FCC. Well, here are the other two: on the left, the P102EWW, and on the right, the P102UNA. Palm’s naming convention is a little strange, so it probably bears explaining again — the “P102″ tells you that it’s a Pre 2, while “EWW” indicates CDMA and “UNA” indicates North American GSM / UMTS. From the UNA model’s filing, it would seem there isn’t any AWS capability on board, so users of T-Mobile, WIND , Mobilicity , and the like are going to have to plod along at 2G speeds if they want to play ball. You know, Murphy’s Law and all. Palm Pre 2 hits FCC in CDMA and North American GSM flavors originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 19 Oct 2010 21:34:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . DJ Hero 2 now available for purchase, Beck still wondering about royalty checks

You seriously can’t make this stuff up — in what can only be assumed is a nod to the the one and only Beck, Activision actually is shipping two turntables and a microphone with DJ Hero 2 . And that bundle is finally on sale starting today. We’d heard earlier in the year that the company was aiming for a fall release, and sure enough, consumers can get their holiday shopping started early by heading to Best Buy (where they’ll receive a hard-shell turntable carrying case), Walmart (where the original DJ Hero will be thrown in gratis when buying the DJ Hero 2 Party Bundle on Wii or Xbox 360) or Amazon (where Linkin Park’s A Thousand Suns will be oh-so-graciously tossed in for no charge). Check it right now for $59.99 (software only) to $149.99 (the full monty). Into The Abyss: US State Environmental Agencies Outsourcing & Cutting Back Staff

NY DEP logo excerpt. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie pushed successfully to “outsource” one of the major functions of the State Department of Environmental Protection: cleaning up contaminated industrial sites. This will no doubt save money for NJ taxpayers but it could also end up cutting some slack for Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs). Could be a win win depending on your point of view. He also seems to want to outsource land use permitting . (I didn’t know that they could do that from Bangalore or Bejing?) New York State exemplifies this trend, as well. Stephen Colbert on Tuesday marvelously chided the cry babies of ABC's “The View” by storming off the set when the topic of Bill O'Reilly and the Ground Zero mosque surfaced. After the comedian joked about bedbugs being responsible for Whoopi Goldberg jumping out of the couch during last Thursday's much-publicized encounter with the host of Fox's “The O'Reilly Factor,” the pair got into a discussion of the incident culminating in Colbert's

Intel announces plans to spend up to $8 billion on U.S. factory upgrades

Apple and Google may be sitting on their piles of cash, but Intel sure is dipping into its reserves in a big way these days — the company has just announced that it’s following up its nearly $8 billion acquisition of McAfee with a multi-billion dollar investment in upgrades to is factories in Arizona and Oregon. That investment will total between $6 billion and $8 billion, and include the development of an entirely new fabrication plant in Oregon, in addition to upgrades at the two existing facilities that will allow Intel to move forward with its 22-nanometer manufacturing process . As you can no doubt guess, the investment will also be quite a boon to both areas — Intel says that the upgrades, which will take place over “several years,” will create as many as 8,000 construction jobs and between 800 and 1,000 permanent jobs at the facilities. Head on past the break for the full press release. Sorry, I didn’t mean to laugh as I wrote that headline : A top aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., tells The Washington Examiner that Rep. Mike McIntyre, D-N.C., was wrong when he went on a North Carolina station to suggest that Pelosi would not run for a third term as speaker when the new Congress is sworn-in in January. McIntyre, according to a story first reported in The Hill, told WWAY-TV that he heard she was “probably not,” going to run for Speaker. But that’s not true, according to those who work closely with Pelosi. “The speaker’s focus is on Democrats and retaining majority, which we will. And she’ll remain as speaker,” said a top aides, who requested anonymity. McIntyre, a member of the House Blue Dog Coalition of moderate Democrats, is in a tough reelection battle in the Tar Heel State’s 7th District and said that if Democrats keep the majority and he’s in it, he won’t vote for Pelosi and neither will some of his moderate colleagues. The Speaker is elected by a simple majority vote in the House on the opening day of Congress. San Fran Nan’s future will make for a lot of interesting moments after November 2nd. Most of the time when a Speaker’s party lost the majority the Speaker resigned the House and went home in shame. Pelosi knows no shame, so that probably won’t happen. However, I think it’s pretty much a sure thing that she will not be any leadership position should she remain in the House. She’ll be yesterday’s news and the symbol for the failure of the Dems to hold the House.
