Kansas Environment Secretary Fired for Not Fast-Tracking Coal Plant Permit

Image via CJOnline.com Apparently in Kansas, regulating coal-fired power plants is not what the state’s top environment official is supposed to do. Health and Environment Secretary Rod Bremby was replaced earlier this week, after first refusing the governor’s ‘offer’ to step down and take the position of Cabinet transition director—and all signs point to Bremby’s firm stance against coal-fired power plants as the reason for the decision. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

There seems to be a schism between two of the media giants that lefties hold in high regard – the entire MSNBC network and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart. After Stewart took a few jabs at MSNBC during his Oct. 30 Washington, D.C. rally, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann took umbrage at the equivalency Stewart drew between his network and the Fox News Channel. In Olbermann’s view, Fox News Channel is a source of evil in the world, while MSNBC is a source of good. However, Stewart, who admittedly sees things from a liberal worldview, questioned MSNBC’s role in damaging political discourse. Video Below Fold read more

It’s Obama’s Indian Vacation : The White House will, of course, stay in Washington but the heart of the famous building will move to India when President Barack Obama lands in Mumbai on Saturday. Communications set-up, nuclear button, a fleet of limousines and majority of the White House staff will be in India accompanying the President on this three-day visit that will cover Mumbai and Delhi. He will also be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his two-day stay there beginning Saturday. The measure has been taken as Mumbai attack in 2008 took place from the sea. Arrangements have been put in place for emergency evacuation, if needed. Obama is expected to fly by a helicopter — Marine One — from the city airport to the Indian Navy’s helibase INS Shikra at Colaba in south Mumbai. From there, he will drive down in Lincoln Continental — the Presidential limousine — to the nearby the Taj Hotel. Two jets, armed with advanced communication and security systems, and a fleet of over 40 cars will be part of Obamas convoy. Around 800 rooms have been booked for the President and his entourage in Taj Hotel and Hyatt. I’m not sure if it’s a State visit or if he’s going into exile and creating Obamaland.

Swedish website tries out Sandy Bridge motherboard with BIOS-replacing UEFI

We haven’t heard a ton about the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (or UEFI for short) since a rumor cropped up back in June suggesting that MSI would be introducing it on its Sandy Bridge motherboards, but Swedish website SweClockers has now actually gotten it hands on a motherboard with working version of the BIOS-replacing firmware, and delivered our first real look at it. The biggest difference, as you can see, is a significantly more user-friendly interface, but there’s also a few other considerable advantages over a standard BIOS, including faster boot times and the ability to boot from drives bigger than 2TB. Head on past the break to check it out in action, in Swedish. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Continue reading Swedish website tries out Sandy Bridge motherboard with BIOS-replacing UEFI Swedish website tries out Sandy Bridge motherboard with BIOS-replacing UEFI originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 04 Nov 2010 14:22:00 EDT. Mr Hortefeux did not say where he got the information about the timing, although US and European intelligence officials have been exchanging information on the plot.
