T-Mobile myTouch 4G rooted, has G2 root to thank for it

Even when they’re relatively easy to root, it usually takes a few weeks of elbow grease to get an Android device fully opened — but thanks to the hard work that’s been put into the T-Mobile G2 root recently, its just-released sister device has been cracked already, too. Sure enough, if you’re willing to put a little time into it, you can now break your myTouch 4G wide open, which presumably means it won’t take long before we see some stock ROMs become available (if you’re into that sort of thing). Seriously, judging from the list of instructions, this isn’t the easiest root in the world — so unless you want to be up on the bleeding edge, you might want to hold out until some awesome ROMs start floating in. Then again, we totally understand if you do it right this second. We’re the same way. Nigeria unions end strike over anemic wages

Trade union members display placards during a protest, in Lagos, Nigeria,… LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) – In oil-rich Nigeria, where tycoons race Italian sports cars down potholed roads and rents get paid years in advance, the minimum wage sits at only $50 a month. Labor groups say such wages cripple those working in Africa’s most populous nation while legislators and top officials receive salaries and perks often exceeding those in Western countries. Upset by the minimum wage, trade unions took to Nigeria’s streets Wednesday as part of a warning strike to bring the…

New York Times reporter Channing Joseph engaged in light-hearted humanizing of those stuffy Communists in Sunday’s Metro section, “ Where Marxists Pontificate, And Play .” The worst thing Joseph can say about the gathering of supporters of tyrannical regimes at the Brecht Forum in Manhattan is that Communsits have a reputation for “seriousness.” There’s even a boring online slide show with cozy captions : “There are little hints of humor all around the Brecht Forum….” Judging by the photos, very little. Try to imagine the Times getting so cozy among a group of mainstream Republicans, much less Tea Party supporters. Hanging out with the Communist group, Joseph posed no inconveniently challenging questions on the atrocities of Stalin, Mao, or Castro. Instead, “smiles abound” and gentleness reigns in this non-news news story. If communists have a reputation for anything, it is seriousness. (And if you have seen old photos of Karl Marx, you know that he did not smile much.) But at the Brecht Forum, a community center on West Street where revolutionaries and radicals gather daily to ponder and to pontificate, they also play. (Smiles abound.) read more

Container cranes at the container-terminal of Bremerhaven in Germany. Photo: Wikipedia , Public Domain. A Kind of Regenerative Braking Chances are, a lot of the stuff in the room around you was in a container at some point. Your computer, your phone and most other electronics probably found their way to you after a long journey inside a container (unless you live in Asia). Same for many other household products, clothes, etc. These containers are loaded unto and unloaded from cargo ships by ginormous cranes… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Motorola Citrus launching on Verizon tomorrow for $50 on-contract

Not much of a surprise at this point, but Verizon has now confirmed that it will be launching the Android-based Motorola Citrus tomorrow, November 11th, and that it will be offering it for just $50 on the usual two-year contract (after a $100 mail-in rebate). Of course, that still doesn’t make it the cheapest Android handset around , and that low-end price comes with some specs to match, including a sluggish 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor, a low-res 3-inch screen, and just Android 2.1 with some Blur customizations. Full press release is after the break. Recovery or desperation? SEARS to be open T-giving for first time in 124-year history… Only 7am to noon, but I can’t imagine they’ll be able to do enough business to pay for the costs of being open, including the holiday overtime pay for the employees. There will be some other retailers open. My daughter works for Old Navy and they were looking for volunteers to work that day for time-and-a-half pay.
