It’s Vegas, so it’s not completely unsurprising to see folks like Lady Gaga and T-Pain stopping by unannounced. But seeing the latter over at a Jakks Pacific booth at CES? Not exactly — shall we say — expected . Regardless, T-Pain was most definitely in the house, primarily to showcase his newest $39.99 accessory, the I Am T-Pain microphone. For all intents and purposes, this here mic is your dream come true, enabling you to sing into it and hear it emitted back with a “T-Pain Effect” embedded. In other words, it’s your autotune instrument of choice. There’s a bit of inbuilt memory as well, enabling users to record clips for future hysteria, while also giving them the chance to blend in T-Pain remarks as they rap and offload their favorite clips to their PC. Police found the bodies of 15 slain men, 14 of them decapitated, on a street outside a shopping centre in the Pacific coast resort of Acapulco. Police in the southern state of Guerrero, where Acapulco is located, said on Saturday that handwritten signs were left with the bodies, a common calling card of Mexico’s cartels. Acapulco has seen bloody turf battles between drug gangs in recent years. “On the sidewalk of the Plaza Senderos shopping centre were the decapitated bodies of 15 males, between 25 and 30 years of age,”

Complaints seem to be growing among some users that Windows Phone 7 is consuming an abnormally plump quantity of data when you’re not doing anything. Granted, there’s lots of stuff on the platform that might need data continuously — email accounts and live tiles, for example — but folks are reporting consumption measuring in multiple megabytes per hour, which can add up pretty quickly: 2MB per hour over a month is nearly 1.5GB, which can be a bummer for anyone with a 2GB data plan. The real issue, though, is that at least some of the data seems to be ignoring available WiFi networks and choosing 3G instead, so there’s no great way to definitively avoid the leak even when you’re in the comfortable confines of your own home. Our money — our hopeful money, that is — is on this being fixed in Microsoft’s first big update that should be coming any day now, but in the meantime, users look to be getting at least some relief by setting mail accounts to manual update and turning off location services. NPR : U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, Arizona Public Media reported Saturday. Giffords, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting her first “Congress on Your Corner” event at the Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting. At least five other people, including members of her staff, were hurt, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media. Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known. Michaels said Giffords was talking to a couple when the man ran up, firing indiscriminately, and then ran off. He was tackled by a bystander. An MSNBC producer at the event tweeted that Giffords was shot in the head , which has yet to be confirmed. Fox News is reporting that three staffers have also been shot. UPDATE : CNN is reporting that witnesses heard 15-20 gunshots. At least nine people were shot. UPDATE #2 : NPR is reporting that Giffords and six others have been killed by the gunman. CNN is reporting that the gunman is young, “late teens to early 20s”.

We knew the HTC EVO 4G was a pretty super phone, but we didn’t know it was an actual superhero. A nightclub valet in Atlanta was recently the victim of two disgruntled patrons’ wrath, falling in the middle of a five-shot bullet volley, but luckily for him, he had his EVO in his chest pocket. While the phone’s glass shattered on impact, its battery did not and absorbed much of the impact of the one bullet intent on ridding him from this mortal coil. The fortunate chap is still with us, uninjured but stupefied by the event, and he promises he’ll never buy another brand’s phone again. See the video report after the break.
