The people at Giga Netwerkz have built a mockup of what they believe an “iPhone 5″ device will look like. Apple may announce a new iPhone on October 4, and speculation seems to be split over whether it the device will be called the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4S, or whether Apple will announce both devices simultaneously. According to a post on Giga’s website, the new iPhone will be slightly wider than its predecessor with a screen that goes clear to the edge of the phone. Based on iPhone 5 cases that were seen by M.I.C. Gadget, the phone may also be taller than the current iPhone 4. Many seem to agree that it will be thinner, with a teardrop shape that slims perceptibly at the bottom. Giga’s mockup indicates that Apple will dispense with the glass back of the iPhone 4 and return to the aluminum back of the original iPhone. This is supported by leaked iPhone 5 case photos that were published by Mashable. Another physical change could be to the Home button. According to Giga’s mockup, the circular button could become an oval, which will work more like the touchscreen. “There have been numerous rumors that Apple is moving away from the mechanical to a capacitive button that reacts to a light touch,” Giga writes on their site. The idea of an elongated home button is supported by leaked screen protectors, which can be seen on MacRumors website. Whatever the aesthetic differences, they are likely to be slight. On October 1, 9to5Mac spotted details about an iPhone 4S device buried inside the most recent iTunes developer beta. The data also includes a picture of what could be the upcoming device, and it looks more or less identical to the Verizon iPhone 4, reports 9to5Mac. Other rumors about the iPhone 4S indicate that the device will be a cheaper version of its predecessor. A new iPhone may also feature a faster processor and may come with voice recognition technology. We’ll soon know which speculation was closest to the mark: Apple is gearing up for its official iPhone event on Tuesday October 4. For now, check out our slideshow (below) of Giga’s iPhone mockup, and visit Giga Netwerkz to see more. Do you think we’ll see a new iPhone that looks like this? Is this is the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 4S? Let us know in the comments.

Plus, they kick in only if a product reaches critical mass. Microsoft and SanDisk demonstrated the risk a few years back with their digital media players in seeding the market with third-party cases and docks using their own proprietary and now abandoned connectors. Over the past year, though, we’ve seen a number of tech companies take a new approach to mobile product development — the corporate showcase — where they convincingly shun any notion of silos by throwing just about everything they’ve got into a product. The Met said the central e-crime unit had delivered nearly 30% of its £504m target during this period. The figure relates to the amount of money the UK has been prevented from losing through cyber crime and follows a number of successful prosecutions and operations. Funding of £30m has been provided over four years to support the development of the unit as it tackles computer intrusion, denial of service attacks and internet fraud. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Janet Williams said: “In the initial six-month period the unit, together with its partners in industry and international law enforcement, has excelled in its efforts to meet this substantial commitment and has delivered in excess of £140m of financial harm reduction to the UK economy. We hope to be able to better this result in the future as we expand our national capability.” Cases include Operation Pagode, which resulted in £84m worth of harm saved. Five defendants were jailed for a total of nearly 16 years after an investigation into a group of fraudsters who set up an online “criminal forum” which traded unlawfully obtained credit card details and tools to commit computer offences. Another was Operation Dynamaphone, which resulted in £5.5m worth of harm saved. Three men were jailed for 13 years for their part in a concerted attack on the UK and international banking system. They are believed to be the first prosecutions in the UK involving such detailed evidence of an organised internet phishing operation. The investigation focused on a network of individuals who obtained large quantities of personal information, such as online bank account passwords and credit card numbers through online phishing in order to steal money from the accounts and use credit card details.
