Mike Huckabee uses his pretty FOX front perch to attack the Obama family over the new TSA scanning procedures. The first family should publicly submit to the new scanning device and “enhanced” pat-downs before requiring Americans to do the same, suggested rumored Republican presidential hopeful and ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee while blasting President Obama this morning over controversial new airline security measures. “If he thinks this is an appropriate way for us to deal with security as he has defended, then I’ve said, ‘OK, Mr. Obama, take your wife, your two daughters and your mother-in-law to Washington Reagan National Airport and have them publicly go through both the body scanner and the full enhanced pat-down in front of others,’” Huckabee said in an interview on Fox and Friends . “‘If it’s OK for your wife, your daughters, and your mother-in-law, then maybe the rest of us won’t feel so bad when our wives, our daughters and our mothers are being put through this humiliating and degrading, totally unconstitutional, intrusion of their privacy.’” Huckabee instead suggested TSA officials adopt “profiling” as a less costly and intrusive alternative. I’m against the TSA screenings myself, but Huckabee is another Republican hypocrite. ABC News’ Brandon Odoi Reports: The youngest son of former Arkansas Governor and current Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee was taken into custody this morning at Little Rock National Airport. David Huckabee, 26, was arrested for having a weapon in a prohibited area, according to an incident document from the Little Rock District Court. The report says a gun was found in his carry on luggage by TSA x-ray machines as he attempted to pass through security. When asked by authorities why he tried to pass through security with a gun, David Huckabee said he forgot he had a weapon in his luggage. Former Governor Mike Huckabee, prepping for a weekend of campaigning in Iowa, issued a statement on Thursday about the arrest. “I love my son but what he did was irresponsible, but not intentional,” read Huckabee’s statement. “The right to carry a firearm has to be balanced with an equal responsibility to not make foolish errors like forgetting about it being in one’s briefcase.”

Kinect hacks lets you control a web browser and Windows 7 using only The Force (updated)

Hacking the Xbox 360 Kinect is all about baby steps on the way to what could ultimately amount to some pretty useful homebrew. Here’s a good example cooked up by some kids at the MIT Media Lab Fluid Interfaces Group attempting to redefine the human-machine interactive experience. DepthJS is a system that makes Javascript talk to Microsoft’s Kinect in order to navigate web pages, among other things. Remember, it’s not that making wild, arm-waving gestures is the best way to navigate a web site, it’s just a demonstration that you can . Let’s hope that the hacking communinity picks up the work and evolves it into a multitouch remote control plugin for our home theater PCs. Boxee, maybe you can lend a hand? Update : If you’re willing to step outside of the developer-friendly borders of open-source software then you’ll want to check out Evoluce ‘s gesture solution based on the company’s Multitouch Input Management (MIM) driver for Kinect. The most impressive part is its support for simultaneous multitouch and multiuser control of applications (including those using Flash and Java) running on a Windows 7 PC. Evoluce promises to release sofware “soon” to bridge Kinect and Windows 7. Until then be sure to check both of the impressive videos after the break. Click here to view this media The above video shows what an egomaniac Tom Delay is. Remember this golden oldie back in 2005? Delay: Conservatives saw the savag…savagery of 9/11 in the effects and oh..in, in, the at–attacks and prepared for war. Liberals saw the savageerry on 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapeutic understanding for our attackers. That’s not slander, that’s the truth. The courts have spoken and Tom Delay is going to jail. All Hail Turkey Day. We’ve just received some extra gravy to go with our mash potatoes. He’s one of the biggest slime balls to ever serve in Congress and who helped create K Street politics. Chris Matthews will be devastated. A major hat tip to Heather for getting the story on C&L’s Breaking News widget so fast. The media was always so quick to defend him. What will they say now? Former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay — once one of the most powerful and feared Republicans in Congress — was convicted Wednesday on charges he illegally funneled corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002. Jurors deliberated for 19 hours before returning guilty verdicts against DeLay on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He faces up to life in prison on the money laundering charge. After the verdicts were read, DeLay hugged his daughter, Danielle, and his wife, Christine. There was no immediate comment from him or his attorneys. Prosecutors said DeLay, who once held the No. 2 job in the House of Representatives and whose heavy-handed style earned him the nickname “the Hammer,” used his political action committee to illegally channel $190,000 in corporate donations into 2002 Texas legislative races through a money swap. — Prosecutors claim the money helped Republicans take control of the Texas House. That enabled the GOP majority to push through a Delay-engineered congressional redistricting plan that sent more Texas Republicans to Congress in 2004 — and strengthened DeLay’s political power. C&L’s archives are filled with Delay material. I bet he wishes he could go on unemployment insurance right now instead of facing a long prison sentence. “You know,” Delay said, “there is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits keeps people from going and finding jobs. In fact there are some studies that have been done that show people stay on unemployment compensation and they don’t look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out. Host Candy Crowley: Congressman, that’s a hard sell, isn’t it? Delay: it’s the truth.

Joe Scarborough Says TSA Screening Controversy ‘Most Ginned-Up Story of the Year,’ But Recants Position When Guests Disagree

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough blasted protesters and opponents of the new TSA screening procedures on Wednesday's “Morning Joe,” only to recant his position on the show's next hour when he realized two panel members criticized the new checks. “I was saying this was a made-up debate – this is a real debate, I guess,” Scarborough admitted on the second hour of his show. While Scarborough and co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist, as well as MSNBC political analyst Harold Ford, sympathized with TSA workers and defended the new checks, two guests opposed the new search methods. Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan and New York Magazine columnist John Heilemann criticized the TSA procedures. Early in the first hour of the show, Scarborough ranted against the “opt-out” protestors who would be forgoing the body scanners at airports Wednesday to be subjected to pat-down checks, deliberately frustrating and slowing down the process on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Scarborough has recently promoted civil discourse on his show with the mantra “Keep Calm and Carry On,” but let loose at the protesters Wednesday.

CBS’ Smith Conducts Soft Interview of TSA Chief, Begs Him to ‘De-mythify’ Controversies of Screenings

Labeling the uproar over new TSA screening procedures as a “tempest-in-a-teapot,” Harry Smith avoided pressing TSA chief John Pistole on CBS' “Early Show” Wednesday about the controversies of the new methods. Rather, Smith deferred to asking Pistole to explain the process further and “de-mythify” false rumors. “There are so many myths about this, not the least of which is 'Well you know, the TSA guy, he's standing there, he can see your – you know what',” Smith told Pistole Wednesday on CBS' “The Early Show.” Smith asked Pistole to “De-mythify this process a moment” and clarify that “somebody is in another room looking at this stuff. They never see your face.” “That is misinformation,” Pistole responded to the “myths” Smith referred to.
