On the May 13 “Fox & Friends,” NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell to recap the 2011 Media Research Center Gala and DisHonors Awards dinner held on May 7 in Washington, D.C. Anchor Brian Kilmeade started off by showing the quote of the year, MSNBC's Ed Schultz ranting that Republicans “want to see you dead” and “make money off your dead corpse.” [For the full "Fox & Friends" segment, watch the video embedded after the page break or listen to MP3 audio here ]

In a moment of respite from its typically liberal proclivities, MSNBC's “Morning Joe” tuned in to “Squawk Box” on May 12 to chat with the 11-year-old daughter of a CNBC anchor who co-authored a book about “defending our kids from the liberal assault on capitalism.” “Although I am an environmentalist, in this argument I support the business side,” wrote Blake Kernen, daughter of CNBC's Joe Kernen, in response to a question on a homework assignment that Blake said was biased against the free market. “I agree that limiting the amount of emissions a company can release would hurt a business … If a company was told to limit its production, it would make less goods, reducing the money it makes. If a company cannot make money, it cannot employ a lot of workers!” [Video embedded after the page break.]

Chris Matthews Asks Ron Reagan ‘Did Your Father Really Believe Cutting Taxes Raised Revenues?’

Chris Matthews Wednesday actually asked Ron Reagan, “Did [your father] really believe if you lowered the tax rates the government made more money?” Frankly, I'm not sure which was more absurd – the question or the answer (video follows with transcript and commentary): CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Ron, I got to get back to you and then to Doug. Did he really believe if you lowered the tax rates the government made more money? I mean, really believe it? RON REAGAN: You know, I think he actually — honestly, I think he did. All evidence to the contrary, I know, find me a time when that actually happened, but I think he believed somehow that that would happen. Well, let's see. In Jimmy Carter's last budget (fiscal 1981), total tax receipts were $599 billion. In Reagan's last budget (fiscal 1989), they were $991 billion, a 65 percent increase. Any questions, Ron, or is this too tough for you? (H/T NBer David)

Chris Matthews: Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin ‘The Greatest Impression Ever’

As NewsBusters previously reported , NBC's Tina Fey once again impersonated former Alaska governor Sarah Palin while guest hosting this weekend's “Saturday Night Live.” The Palin-hating media were as usual enthralled by Fey's performance, with MSNBC's Chris Matthews actually saying on Monday's “Hardball,” “This has got to be the greatest impression ever” (video follows with transcript and commentary): CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Up next: Tina Fey brings Sarah Palin back to “Saturday Night Live.” This has got to be the greatest impression ever. I mean, sometimes — I’m not going to talk about it anymore. It’s — she’s so good. You’re watching HARDBALL, only on MSNBC. MATTHEWS: Back to HARDBALL. Now to the “Sideshow.” First up: She’s back. On this weekend’s “SNL,” Tina Fey returned to her role as frontierswoman/presidential candidate Sarah Palin (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, “SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE”) TINA FEY, ACTRESS: It is just so great to be back on FOX News, a network that both pays me and shows me the questions ahead of time. (LAUGHTER) FEY: And I just hope that, tonight, the lamestream media won’t twist my words by repeating them verbatim. (LAUGHTER) FEY: As for boning up on experience and policy, I’m planning a trip to the Middle East, where I will be filming a cameo in “Hangover 3,” the third “Hangover.” (LAUGHTER) FEY: The fellows go to bar, and I’m there. (LAUGHTER) FEY: I also recently purchased Rosetta Stone English. (LAUGHTER) (APPLAUSE) FEY: I want to acknowledge that, this week, we finally vanquished one of the world’s great villains. And I for one am thrilled to say good riddance to Katie Couric. (LAUGHTER) (APPLAUSE) (END VIDEO CLIP) MATTHEWS: Wow, one of the great send-ups in TV history, I would say. Greatest evuh? Better than some of Rich Little's fabulous impressions? Or Dana Carvey's? Or Frank Caliendo's? Or Frank Gorshin's? I think not! As for Fey, she shouldn't find Matthews' praise all that flattering. Earlier in the show he said last week was the greatest week ever for the country. The “Hardball” host appeared full of totally meaningless superlatives Monday – amongst other things, that is.
