Arizona Death Panels Rack Up Their Second Victim. Gov. Brewer Says Feds Need To Send More Money!

enlarge So Arizona Gov. Jan “Death Panels” Brewer and her death panels are saving money by denying needed care . The wingnut irony deficiency is, as usual, in full flower: Brewer is saying the feds need to send her more money: PHOENIX — A second person denied transplant coverage by Arizona under a state budget cut has died, with this death “most likely” resulting from the coverage reduction, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday. University Medical Center spokeswoman Jo Marie Gellerman said the patient died Dec. 28 at another medical facility after earlier being removed from UMC’s list for a liver transplant needed because of hepatitis C. Gellerman cited medical privacy requirements in declining to release any information about the patient. Arizona reduced Medicaid coverage for transplants on Oct. 1 under cuts included to help close a shortfall in the state budget enacted last spring. Officials at the Tucson, Ariz., hospital said the patient’s death “most likely” resulted from Arizona’s scaling back coverage for transplants, she said. It’s impossible to say with 100 percent certainty whether the patient would have died anyway, Gellerman said, “but we do know that his condition has gotten more severe since he was taken off the list.” The patient’s worsening condition would have elevated his place on the list, she added. A Phoenix-area man, Mark Price, died Nov. 28 of complications from preparation for a bone-marrow transplant that was to be privately funded. That funding was provided anonymously after The Associated Press and other media outlets reported that he was notified of two possible donors on Oct. 1, the same day the coverage was reduced. The second person’s death was reported by KOLD-TV in Tucson and the Arizona Guardian. Democrats and other critics have slammed Republican Gov. Jan Brewer and the Republican-led Legislature for the transplant coverage reduction, and incoming Senate Minority Leader David Schapira called on them to restore the approximately $1.4 million of funding. “Failure to restore this funding is a death sentence for people who have committed no crimes,” he said.

PogoPlug Video converts footage on the fly, streams it to all your connected devices

We always thought the PogoPlug was a neat idea — a miniature server that gives you access to USB devices on the go — and today, Cloud Engines is making it a little more useful. The $200 PogoPlug Video may look just like the PogoPlug Pro that tempted your pocketbook in October, but it’s got a brand-new daughterboard inside, whose purpose in life is to take your video files, convert them to variable bitrate H.264 and stream them anywhere in the world in real time. CEO Daniel Putterman claims that — depending on device support — it can pull footage directly from a connected camcorder and share it with your dearest relatives’ computers, tablets and phones then and there. Sony’s AVCHD camcorders will be compatible on day one, with other companies negotiating right now, and speaking of promises, the company says that additional printer support for all PogoPlug devices is “right around the corner.” Like what you see? They’ll be happy to take you money starting March 1st, and devices will go on sale just in time for April Fools’ Day. PR after the break. Reading the Constitution; Plus, the Passing of the Gavel — An Alternate Ending

**Written by Doug Powers The Republican reading of the US Constitution is today. Hopefully somebody out there is forcing Joy Behar to watch it, Clockwork Orange-style, but that’s probably too much to hope for. The New York Times refers to the reading (watch here ) as a “ritual of self-glorification.” That’s a funny thing to say coming merely a day after the outgoing Speaker talked for longer than the… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Michelle Malkin Discovery Date : 06/01/2011 17:22 Number of articles : 9

Baffled Vieira to Bachmann: Why Vote to Repeal Obamacare If It’s Going to Get Vetoed?

NBC's Meredith Vieira seemed baffled by the concept of taking a principled stand against Obamacare, as she repeatedly pressed Michele Bachmann, on Thursday's Today show, why Republicans would bother to vote to repeal the health care bill in the House if it wasn't going to get passed in the Senate or signed by the President? Vieira's very first question to the Republican Minnesota Congresswoman set the aggressive tone for the entire interview as she demanded: “Given the fact that the Democratic-led Senate will never go for that and the President has veto power, why make that the first big thing on your plate?” For her part Bachmann attempted to explain to the Today co-anchor that health care was “the issue that people really reacted against” in the midterms and “were very upset that very few members even bothered to read the health care bill.” However Vieira found that to be an insufficient response as she rebutted: “But if you have no chance to repeal it, why go through this exercise?” (video after the jump) read more

Motorola Droid Bionic to make Skype video calls

You know that front facing camera on Motorola’s LTE Droid Bionic ? Well, it looks like you will be able to use it to make Skype video calls very soon. We were hanging around the Motorola booth early this morning and while playing around with the new 4.3-inch phone we noticed a “Skype demo” application. One click on the application revealed that the video calling capability, which just became available for the iPhone , will be heading to Android soon. There wasn’t a working app, but the video demo clearly showed how easy it will be to log into Skype, pull up your contact list, and make a video call over Verizon’s next generation network. We’ve got a few pictures below and a short video is on the way. Now we just need Skype to make this official at its press conference in just a few hours… Gallery: Skype video calling demo on Droid Bionic Motorola Droid Bionic to make Skype video calls originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 06 Jan 2011 11:51:00 EDT. Is this the Samsung SCH-i520 headed to Verizon?

Is this the Samsung SCH-i520 you’ve been waiting for wrapped in a protective case? We can pretty much bank on the fact that the HTC Thunderbolt is getting outed today and with this pic slapped up by Offwire — which looks suspiciously like an unbranded version of this Verizon set we saw — we may well be looking at another of Verizon’s suite of new LTE sets . Nothing much is known about this 4G slate, aside from the obvious forward facing camera, but Verizon’s press event starts in the next little while and we hope we’ll learn more.
