I don’t even know why we bother to have a congress and elected leaders anymore when a single unelected judge with a lifetime appointment can simply undo with a stroke of a pen anything the elected leadership does.: A federal judge ordered that the U.S. military stop enforcing the don’t ask, don’t tell policy on Tuesday. Judge Virginia Phillips ordered the military “immediately to suspend and discontinue any investigation, or discharge, separation, or other proceeding, that may have been commenced under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”.” The judge had previously ruled that the policy regarding gays serving in the military violated service members Fifth Amendment rights but delayed issuing the injunction. This is probably a big break for Obama. He kept saying he wanted to stop “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” but never did anything about it. Now he can just point to the ruling and doesn’t have to actually take a stand. Isn’t it amazing that after 17 years on the books something can suddenly be unconstitutional?

ABC News, which likes to bill itself as delivering “up-to-the-minute political coverage,” on Sunday identified nine key Senate seats and mistakenly labeled five of them as held by Democrats. In front of a map, Good Morning America's Dan Harris pronounced, “Our political unit says nine Democratic-held Senate seats are now leaning Republican. Those are the ones in pink, to the eastern part of the country .” Highlighted in pink as Democrat seats? Ohio, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Louisiana and Florida. All of those are, in fact, Republican controlled. (In order, Republicans George Voinovich, Richard Burr, Judd Gregg, David Vitter and

As well they should be : In a potential sign of Democratic unease with the White House midterm political strategy, some of President Obama’s allies have begun to question his sustained attack on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has long claimed bipartisanship but is being increasingly identified as a GOP ally. Some Democrats on Capitol Hill worry that the White House is going too far in charging that the politically powerful business lobby may be using foreign money to fuel its election efforts. The charge ignites strong feelings among job-hungry voters. But Democrats are concerned that it may be overstated and could harm moderate Democrats in swing districts. Not only is the charge overstated, it’s completely false. And coming from Obama and Biden it’s hilarious, given their history of taking millions of foreign donations through all sorts of schemes. The Chamber of Commerce represents American business, and we know how much today’s Democrats hate anything that might possibly make a profit. However, most Americans don’t see this as an attack on a political opponent, they see it as an attack on the American way and the neighborhood businesses they support. I half expect Obama and Biden to come out against Mom and apple pie next.

Panasonic’s ‘Parallel link’ manufacturing robot can learn new tricks

It may not be quite as whimsical as some of Panasonic’s other robots , but the company’s new “Parallel link” manufacturing bot might just be one of the most important the company’s developed in some time. Not only does it boast a 50% reduction in power consumption compared to some traditional one-armed manufacturing robots, but it’s able to learn new tasks simply by having someone move its arm through the motions. It also supposedly has an “affordable” price, although we’re guessing it’s still a bit out of reach if you’re just looking for something to help out around the house. Head on past the break to check it out in action. Weekday Vegetarian: Beets and Greens Quesadillas

If you are one of those people who says “ewww” whenever beets are served, this might be the recipe that changes your mind. I’ve always loved beets, pickled beets being one of my favourite things as a kid, so it always surprises me when people give that little shiver of distaste when they are mentioned….
