Continue reading …Samsung had signaled Big Red’s intention to replace its old, non-3G Network Extender as early as CES in January this year — something Sprint did a couple months back — but only now are they getting official with the updated model. The aptly-named 3G Network Extender is a warmed-over version of the original, boosting simultaneous connection capability from four to six (Sammy’s specs at CES had it listed for eight, interestingly) and offering EV-DO coverage in the event that your home, office, or other location of interest isn’t blanketed with Verizon spectrum. The company claims it’ll work for up to 40 feet surrounding the device, which seems reasonable considering your average home is rife with RF-hating barriers. There are no monthly fees for the device, but you’ll be shelling out $249.99 upfront; it’s available now. Follow the break for Verizon’s press release. The company is announcing today a new model called the Brammo Enertia+, and while it will cost $1000 more (from $7,995 to $8,995) than the non-plus version, it will have double the range, going from 40 miles to 80 miles. The most impressive thing about it is that they accomplished this without increasing the bike’s weight. Who said battery technology isn’t progressing? According to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey, 29% of Likely Voters say an endorsement from the president is the one most likely to make them vote for a candidate. But even more (45%) say Obama is the politician who makes them least likely to vote for a candidate he endorses. You can tell the state of the race just by looking to see where Obama is campaigning. He’s recently made stops in Delaware, Boston, and Cleveland, and is coming to Los Angeles on Friday. These are places where a Democrat president should have to go this late in a campaign. Those areas should be securely Democrat, but this year every race is a challenge and there’s no such thing as a safe Dem seat.

Williams has been steeped in Symbian for some time, having previously led Nokia’s S60 business — but the dude’s been floating around the upper ranks of the entire mobile industry for ages, doing time with Motorola (through its Symbol acquisition) and Palm / PalmSource by way of Be. He’s been replaced by the organization’s reigning CFO, Tim Holbrow, and it appears that the appointment is permanent; what this means for Symbian’s roadmap (if anything) is unclear, but we’d love to hear the backstory on what led to this power shift. More on the situation as we get it. Symbian boss steps down effective immediately originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 19 Oct 2010 13:34:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink

The ABC co-host allowed, “…[Republicans] are going to pick up Senate seats. Likely could take control of the House. Definitely going to pick up seats. What happens the day after?” Putting the responsibility for bipartisanship on conservatives, Stephanopoulos cited an ABC News poll and pushed, “… A majority of Americans, believe that President Obama is more interested in cooperation. Tea Party advocates more interested in division. How do you prove them wrong? ” read more

If you need a little help, take inspiration from this doozy told by Grant Castle, a Director at T-Mobile USA. It was submitted to the FCC way back in January and as a sort of written protest against “risky and unnecessary” net neutrality rules. He tells the tale of an undisclosed IM app that caused the network of an undisclosed city to go offline due to its too-frequent polling to check for updates. T-Mo engineers had to reach out to that app’s developer and get him to change its code, saving the company’s towers from the program’s thousands of users. There’s no telling which of the company’s many outages were caused by the app that wouldn’t die ( shriek ), but we’d sure hate to think that any members of the FCC are losing sleep over this saga of corporate woe. T-Mobile director scares the FCC with a chilling tale: ‘The IM App that Killed Our Network’ originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 19 Oct 2010 12:25:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Continue reading …A new euphemism for illegal aliens was created during the Maryland governor’s debate: Did I hear Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, D, right during his second debate with former Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich? Did O’Malley call illegal immigrants “new Americans”? Good thing I recorded that debate on a DVD. I replayed it Saturday night, and O’Malley’s exact quote was this, part of his response to a question about illegal immigration. “There is this nativism rising up and this desire to blame new Americans for the problems in our economy.” Yeah, he said it. And Ehrlich was quick to pounce on the gaffe. “If somebody breaks in my house, is that a new member of my family that night?” The level to which both parties go to pander to the Hispanic vote is really disgusting.
