Photo credit: Vassilis Online / Creative Commons This guest post was written by Smith Raynor, a teacher at Hunter Elementary School in Raleigh, North Carolina. Stay in line. Hands to yourself. No talking. Eyes on your own work. These are the messages that our children hear every day in every school in the country. Necessary messages, for sure…but hardly ones that empower children to create change . But The Hunter Ecoheroes, a group of kindergart… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Chevrolet Cruze Eco Rated at 42 MPG on Highway (And It’s Not a Hybrid)

Photo: GM When GM announced an “Eco” version of its Chevrolet Cruze tweaked for fuel efficiency, it said that it was aiming for an EPA rating of 40 MPG on the highway, a respectable figure for a car that isn’t particularly small, that meets modern safety standards, and is rated under the stricter EPA methodology (don’t compare it to your 20 years old Geo Metro, please). But now that the EPA rating is out, the Cruze Eco actually does better than what it was aiming for, with 42 MPG highway/28 MPG city…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

Verbatim’s diminutive MediaShare Mini NAS: memory not included

Verbatim , whose business is memory (and whose name means “to reproduce word for word,” by the way) has done a Rick Moranis job on its MediaShare NAS, resulting in the MediaShare Mini. One third the size of its predecessor, this guy retains its slight stature by going the Iomega iConnect route of eschewing on-board storage altogether for four USB ports (so it looks like you’ll have to factor the four thumb drives into the purchase price). And like the full-size MediaShare NAS server, this bad boy supports remote access via HTTP, support for a number of handhelds (including the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, BlackBerry, Android, and Palm Pre), Facebook integration, DLNA-compliant media streaming, and more. Look for it now for an MSRP of $90. Verbatim’s diminutive MediaShare Mini NAS: memory not included originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 12 Nov 2010 13:50:00 EDT.
