The Sony Dash gets a bit of a bum wrap. Sure, we wish it was a little more tablet, a little less alarm clock , but Justin Bieber loves his . You know what else The Biebs likes? Cutting cable! Now that Hulu Plus is on his Sony Dash he can totally kick Time Warner to the curb, which is worthy of a trending Twitter topic if we ever saw one. He’s too young for HBO, anyway. It looks like the people who fly, whether in the cockpit or the passenger cabin, have about had it with the TSA and its intrusive security measures : The federal government’s efforts to beef up airport security amid increasing terror threats is sparking a growing backlash among airline passengers, labor unions and advocacy groups who say the “naked strip search” machines or aggressive pat-downs that screeners use go too far. “They have wide discretion but they don’t have unlimited discretion,” said John Verdi, senior counsel with the Electronic Privacy Information Center, or EPIC, a privacy advocacy group that is challenging the government in court. Last month, the Transportation Security Administration began a slow rollout of high-tech body scanners, funded by $73 million in federal stimulus funds, that give screeners the ability to see beneath a passenger’s clothing while they search for weapons. The devices use a low dose of radiation to create a computerized image of a person’s body. “Advanced imaging technology is an integral tool in TSA’s layered counterterrorism approach that enables us to stay ahead of evolving threats to aviation security,” TSA Administrator John S. Pistole said in a written statement. “We remain committed to deploying imaging technology to protect the traveling public.” At the same time, screeners began “enhanced” pat-downs of airline passengers who opt against the body scanner or set off a metal detector. The new searches require screeners to touch passengers’ breasts and genitals. This is why the day before Thanksgiving has been declared ” National Opt-Out Day ” by a group who hopes to protest the naked scanners and tie up airport security on the busiest travel day of the year. Homeland Security has a bad habit of overreacting to incidents and arbitrarily declaring new rules following everything that happens.

Asia-Pacific leaders seek amity after G20

Regional security tensions between China, Japan could hamper efforts to forge goodwill Saturday, November 13, 2010 – Powered by –> Linda Sieg and Tim Kelly Reuters YOKOHAMA, Japan: Asia-Pacific leaders begin talks Saturday on freeing up trade in the region, a day after a sometimes rancorous G-20 summit papered over differences on how to keep a fragile global economic recovery on track. The 21 Asia-Pacific economies, nine of whom including the US and China also belong to the Group of 20 (G-20) major economies, are set to urge policies for balanced growth and start work on a vast free trade area in the fast-growing region. But the aftertaste of rifts exposed at the G-20 summit in Seoul, where…

Denial : House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she has the “overwhelming support” of fellow Democrats in her bid to become minority leader in the next Congress, and says she’s not to blame for the Democrats’ mid-term debacle. Nancy Pelosi“We didn’t lose the election because of me,” Ms. Pelosi told National Public Radio in an interview that aired Friday morning. “Our members do not accept that.” Instead, the California Democrat attributes the loss of at least 60 seats to high unemployment and “$100 million of outside, unidentified funding.” “Any party that cannot turn (9.5% unemployment) into political gains should hang up the gloves,” she said. A lot of her members will disagree with that, especially those that got tossed out. Pelosi became the face of the great Democrat overreach on Obamacare, stimulus, government takeovers, etc. If she becomes Minority Leader she will continue to be the face of the Democrats in the House and that will bode ill for her party in 2012.

Laguna Beach

Back from my 24 hours in Laguna Beach with some shots of the scenery and some critters that showed up: The view from our 4th floor room at the Surf and Sand Resort. Looking back at the Resort from the beachfront. During our beach walk we saw the home of a food industry celebrity We watched the sun set behind Santa Catalina Island from our balcony. Got a shot of the crescent moon later in the evening. In the morning I spotted several dolphins just offshore. This sea gull decided to sit on the railing of our balcony while I was taking pictures. Catalina Island glowing in the morning sun. A fishing boat headed out of Newport with the cliffs of Catalina in the background.

Ted Koppel Compares Cable News to Bernie Madoff, Hypes His ‘Nonpartisan Sadness’

Former Nightline host Ted Koppel will use an op-ed appearing in Sunday's Washington Post to compare the current state of cable news to financial swindler Bernie Madoff and to express “nonpartisan sadness” over the success of Fox News and MSNBC. The veteran journalist touted the suspension of Keith Olbermann for donating to Democratic congressional candidates as “a whimsical, arcane holdover from a long-gone era of television journalism when the networks considered the collection and dissemination of substantive and unbiased news to be a public trust . ” Attacking Fox and MSNBC for bias, he even compared, ” This is to journalism what Bernie Madoff was to investment: He told his customers what they wanted to hear, and by the time they learned the truth, their money was gone .” Koppel expressed the not exactly original wish of many journalists to return to a time when only a few network and reporters were the final arbiters of news: “The commercial success of both MSNBC and Fox News is a source of nonpartisan sadness for me.” read more
