Why HSBC Spent $100 Million to Teach its Bankers About Climate Change

In 2007, the British bank HSBC partnered with the environmental group Earthwatch in order to educate its staff about climate change. The intensive training cost around $100 million, but the bank has already made some of that back — energy efficiency measures employed shortly after the class’s completion saved the bank $300,000 to date.
