(03-03) 18:51 PST SAN BRUNO — A defective seam weld wasn’t the only time bomb lurking in the natural-gas pipeline that exploded in San Bruno in September, a newly released federal document shows. The girth welds holding together the pipe sections at the explosion site were “rejectable by virtually every welding code in existence” and “grotesquely at odds with industry standards and specifications,” said Doug Chisholm, a pipeline consultant from Virginia who reviewed a National Transportation Safety Board metallurgy report released this week.
