New aftershock, but progress made at Japan nuclear plant

A strong aftershock struck this morning near the troubled nuclear power plant at the centre of Japan’s radiation crisis. The country’s meteorological agency said there was no fear of a tsunami following the 7.10am quake, whose magnitude was recorded at 6.0. Public broadcaster NHK said there was no immediate report of further damage to nuclear power plants in Fukushima, including the Fukushima No. 1, which was crippled by the March 11 quake. Meanwhile, workers at the leaking nuclear plant hooked up power lines to all six of the crippled complex’s reactor units today, but other repercussions from the massive earthquake and tsunami were still rippling across the nation as economic losses…
