The triple plays just keep on coming! In the bottom of the third inning of Saturday’s minor league game between the Nashville Sounds and Omaha Storm Chasers, Omaha’s Clint Robinson drove one to deep center field. With runners on first and second, Sounds outfielder Logan Schafer ran back, leaped and tried to make the catch. The ball bounced off his glove, then his head and Schafer somehow managed to snag it before it hit the ground. Both baserunners were stuck in no man’s land as Schafer threw the ball back so the defense could complete the triple play. “I felt like I didn’t have enough time to turn around and I reached up my glove,” Schafer said after Nashville’s 4-1 victory. “[The ball] went straight up, hit me in the head and I tried to scoop it up. It was a whole lot of luck and it was pretty crazy.” Earlier last week, the Milwaukee Brewers turned a triple play in thrilling fashion when first baseman Prince Fielder threw out Los Angeles’ Matt Kemp at home plate. One day later, the Boston Red Sox turned a 5-4-3 triple play against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Associated Press pointed out that it was the first time since 1981 that two triple plays were turned in consecutive days. WATCH VIDEO AT THE TOP
