John Yates announced his resignation as one of Britain’s top police officers today after coming under mounting pressure over his handling of the phone hacking scandal. The Scotland Yard Assistant Commissioner told Metropolitan Police Authority chairman Kit Malthouse this afternoon that he was standing down. The move came after Sir Paul Stephenson resigned as Metropolitan Police Commissioner last night.
