Jennifer Love Hewitt and “Crossing Jordan” star Ivan Sergei have been cast in the big screen adaptation of the wildly successful stage comedy, “Jewtopia,” Variety reports. Originally a stage show in Los Angeles, the show became the longest-running Off-Broadway comedy in history, with over 1200 performances. The show is about two friends — a Jew named Adam and Gentile named Chris — who want to find Jewish women to marry; Adam, to please his family, and Chris so he never has to make another decision in his life again. The two decide to team up, with Chris teaching geeky Adam how to attract women and Adam bringing Chris into the world of temple mixers and Jewish online dating. Sergei will play Chris, while Love Hewitt will take on the role of Alison, the woman he zeroes in on as the cure to a life filled with the responsibility of free will. It’s a new direction for Love Hewitt, who has spent the last number of years starring in the now-cancelled CBS’ supernatural procedural, “Ghost Whisperer.” She nearly landed a lead role in a revamped “Law & Order: SVU,” before the network passed. Given the huge critical praise for “Jewtopia,” it could be a nice bump for Love Hewitt, who was recently named, statistically speaking, the worst reviewed actress since 1985.
