enlarge Credit: Mirror Barbara Bush showed her compassionate-conservative self again when she told Sarah Palin to stay in Alaska: In a preview for a Larry King interview to be shown Monday on CNN, former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, are shown addressing topics such as the Tea Party influence, the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, and their son’s book. Asked for her read on Palin, Barbara Bush responded: “I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful and I think she’s very happy in Alaska — and I hope she’ll stay there.” In other words, you’re looking good, but just butt out of politics and go fishing on TLC.Tell us how you really feel, Mrs. Bush. When I saw this, I remembered her insensitive comments about Hurricane Katrina victims and that should remind us of what Conservatives think about those they see as lesser people. Click here to view this media What I’m hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality,” she said at the time. “And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.” This comment was back in 2005 and in all seriousness she didn’t have a clue why it was offensive. Palin is a political atrocity, but Mrs. Bush reminds us why lots of people root for her.
