Andy Roddick Outburst: Tennis Star Flips Out At U.S. Open Over Court Conditions (VIDEO)

Although U.S. Open officials were eager to resume play on Thursday, not all of the players were so sure the courts were sufficiently dried out after the torrential rain that has soaked New York this week. In particular, the court in Louis Armstrong Stadium was judged unsafe by Andy Roddick. Before his fourth-round match with David Ferrer, the American pointed out a crack in the court to chair umpire Carlos Bernardes. He was apparently showing the officials that water was still seeping up through the court. That’s when the ESPN cameras caught him losing his temper. “It’s coming up from underneath, and I’m really starting to get pissed,” Roddick said. “How hard is it to not see water? What are we doing here?” After continuing to point out the poor court conditions to Bernardes, Roddick walked away and angrily said, “I’m baffled right now. Absolutely baffled.” Ed McGrogan of Tennis.com pointed out that one of the officials told both players that it’s going to be an “ongoing issue.” The match was moved to Court 13. Roddick caused a stir after earlier in the tournament, bashing tennis analysts after his first-round victory by calling it “the easiest job in the world.” Proving it’s not just the bright lights of the Big Apple that get him all fired up, he also threw a tantrum at the chair umpire during a match at the Western and Southern Open after he had already vented some frustration by slamming a ball into the stands.
