In broadcast network stories on how Ginni Thomas left a phone message for Anita Hill (“I would love you to consider an apology sometimes and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband”) , a revelation which ABC and NBC decided merited their lead slot, the network journalists couldn't resist scolding her for her conservative political activity. “Ginni Thomas has long stretched our idea of what a spouse of a non-partisan Supreme Court justice should be,” ABC's Sharyn Alfonsi contended, explaining: “A long-time conservative activist, she now heads Liberty Central , an advocacy group opposing what she characterizes as the leftist tyranny of President Obama.” On CBS, Jan Crawford declared the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas “has come under scrutiny” because “she formed a grass-roots conservative group and speaks at Tea Party conventions.” NBC's Andrea Mitchell echoed: “Recently, Virginia Thomas has emerged as a high-profile Tea Party activist and skilled fundraiser,” calling that “an unusually partisan role for a Supreme Court spouse, as the New York Times wrote on the 19th anniversary of the hearings, the same morning Mrs. Thomas called Anita Hill.” read more

As the San Francisco Chronicle reported that afternoon, a federal appeals court suspended U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips’ order to stop all “don’t ask, don’t tell”-related activities worldwide, giving the court until at least Monday to look into the administration’s bid for an appeal.

The Digital Reader has taken the thing for a spin and, as it turns out, it’s an ever so slightly modified version of the Literati that scored its own terrible review just a few weeks ago. The $150 CVS version suffers the same issues, including a complete inability to read e-books downloaded to SD card or copied onto internal memory. Also, battery life is poor, performance is slow, the margins are off, and there’s no web browser. Positives? Well, it has physical buttons for page turning and… yeah. With the Kindle just a click away at $139, it’s hard to see anyone wanting the LookBook, you may be tempted while picking up your ‘scripts. Shocker! Yesterday I noted how Sun staffer Paul West wrote about a PAC running ads against freshman Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil (Md.). West portrayed the PAC's ads as a clever end-run around campaign contribution limits for Baltimore-area businessman Daniel Schuster. Yet in a blog post yesterday afternoon entitled “Democratic 'Super PAC' dropping $400K hit on Andy Harris,”

The author of the book relied heavily on a pro-Confederacy group she found on the Internet. Washington Post via NPR: The Sons of Confederate Veterans, a group of male descendants of Confederate soldiers based in Columbia, Tenn., has long maintained that substantial numbers of black soldiers fought for the South The group’s historian-in-chief, Charles Kelly Barrow, has written the book “Black Confederates.” The Sons of Confederate Veterans also disputes the widely accepted conclusion that the struggle over slavery was the main cause of the Civil War. Instead, the group says, the war was fought “to preserve their homes and livelihood,” according to John Sawyer, chief of staff of the Sons of Confederate Veterans’ Army of Northern Virginia. He said the group was pleased that a state textbook accepted some of its views. Read more Historians, of course, reject such nonsense. Most troubling of all, the book made it through a series of checks and was labeled “accurate and unbiased” by the Virginia Education Department.
