"Revenge of the Electric Car" Trailer to Premiere When Facebook Fan Page Hits 10,000 Fans

Image: Screen grab of their Facebook page A Full Pendulum Swing I’m pretty sure that most TreeHugger readers have seen Chris Paine’s documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? , or are at least familiar with the general idea of it. When the film was released in 2006, things had been pretty gloomy for electric cars for a while. But since then, a lot has happened and that’s what the sequel titled Revenge of the Electric Car will document…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

PowerHouse Solar Shingle Is Clever. But Is It A Good Idea?

95% of roofs in America are asphalt shingles that are cheap, fossil fuel based, heat absorbing and don’t last very long; then they are hard to get rid of. They have been called “a disposable roofing system that is difficult to dispose of.” But did we say they were cheap? Dow Chemical decided if you can’t beat’em, join’em and has developed the Powerhouse solar shingle, which John showed us last year. It … Read the full story on TreeHugger

How One Online Global Warming Poll Could Influence US Policy

Photo: gregw66 , Flickr, CC Sure, everyone gets a kick out of online polls: They’re fun, simple, interactive. The votes get tallied up right before your eyes, a digital snapshot of community opinion. But you’d be hard-pressed to think of anything less scientific — and certainly anything less worthy of basing actual policy recommendations upon. Yet just two days ago, the results of an online poll were submitted as actual testimony in a Congressional hearing on climate change, by a so-called expert seeking to discredit climate science. This is the story of how this absur… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Photo: Wild Wonders of Europe A black-winged kite bird closes in on its prey — a terrified mouse — in a field in Spain. This is just one of the dangers hitting the animal world this week: We also have a brave house cat that takes on an alligator, threats of extinction from natural causes, and a loud ocean that’s forcing whales to shout.

Weekday Vegetarian Thanksgiving: Cranberry Sorbet

I toyed with the idea of making a pumpkin pie for dessert for our Thanksgiving dinner because it really is such a traditional fixture to the meal. But I served so much food, I really wanted something that was going to be lighter as a finish. I still wanted something seasonal , so I decided to make a cranberry sorbet and served it along side a selection of Canadian artisanal cheeses. It turned out to be the perfect dessert, very refresh… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Seabird That Soars In Air and Water Inspires New Flying/Swimming Robot

Photo via Wikipedia The common guillemot is a seabird with a smart strategy for fishing. It can fly over the water with straight wings, but when it dives into the water to catch it’s prey, it swims with bent wings. The bend in the wing reduces drag, and it is this morphing wing that has inspired researchers to come up with a robot that can both fly and swim — something brand new in the biomimicry world. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

On the Street…. Gianluca Bocache, Rome

Finally I found A great mens shop in Rome! Run by Gianluca Bocache (above) and Andrea Luparelli, the shop is super chic and specializes in custom suits and shoes. I hate to admit it but I always judge a shop by the owners and these guys are cool. I love a peak lapel suit, however the question is always one or two-button. I always go peak with one-button but I’m swayed by Gianluca’s two-button swagger. Unfortuneately my shooting schedule in Rome was so tight (made worse by the never ending rain) I wasn’t able to shoot the shop but it will give me a reason to return to Rome asap. If you find yourself in the Eternal City here is their shop info. SARTORIA RIPENSE: Via di Ripetta, 38 00186 Roma +39 06 323 3727 info@sartoriaripense.com SARTORIA RIPENSE
