Green Party Governor Candidate Arrested for Attempting to Join Debate

Photo: Marnie Glickman, Fog City Journal More than a few folks are fed up with the nation’s seemingly unshakable two-party system — the endless hostile dance between Republicans and Democrats has got to leave even the most stalwart beltway politico exasperated. And yet, nobody seems to pay much attention when anyone tries to shake up the system. For instance, last night, Laura Wells, the Green Party candidate for governor in California, who received 400,000 votes when she ran… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Liberal ‘Comedy’ Writer Gets Paranoid About Heritage Action Ad

Earlier this week an essay appeared on the Huffington Post which accused Heritage Action of plagiarism with regards to some Internet spots they are currently running starring Clint Howard . As the writer for the Heritage Action ads in question, let me address the charge of plagiarism directly. First of all, I can give you my word of honor as a gentleman* that until yesterday morning I had never seen or even heard of the SEIU ads I am accused of plagiarizing. I have heard of Lee Camp, as I peruse the Huffington Post regularly for joke premises, and I have even sampled a couple of Mr. Camp’s alleged comedy offerings. Not being a fan of his work, however, there would be no reason for me to seek out additional examples of it. I would be more than happy to undergo a polygraph examination to corroborate my claims of innocence on the condition that Mr. Camp undergo a polygraph test to corroborate his claims of being a comedy writer which I have been unable to document elsewhere. Nation-E’s electric Hummer H1 can power itself and others

It may not be the first electric Hummer out on the roads — we hear a certain Terminator-turned-Governor has one — but Nation-E’s so-called AngelH1 is something of a first nonetheless. Not only is it an all-electric Hummer H1, but it packs a 60 kW battery that lets it double as a mobile charging station for other vehicles, construction sites, or even buildings in an emergency situation. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but it looks like Nation-E is taking a bit of a cue from DieHard to demonstrate its battery technology — the company will be using one of its 40kW batteries to power a three-hour DJ set at the E-Car-Tec exhibition in Munich, Germany later this month. Full press release is after the break. CicLAvia: Los Angeles’s Open Streets Event Attracted Around 100,000 People (Video)

If It Can Happen in L.A., It Can Happen Anywhere The city of Bogota has made the ” Ciclovía ” known around the world, and since then it has been spreading to other cities. The concept is simple: Close down some streets to cars and allow pedestrians and cyclists to take over. After years of preparation, Los Angeles has just had its own “CicLAvia” and by most accounts it was a resounding success (the LA Times estimated that 100,000 people took part). The city known for sprawl and car congesti… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Fan-made Engadget live wallpaper brings eBoy, floating Penny to Android

You’re probably like us: you love Engadget, and you love custom wallpapers. Well, if you’re a big enough Engadget fan, you may be familiar with another love of ours: Penny the Chihuahua, who has made numerous appearances on Engadget over the years. In fact, you could probably call her our mascot… or something. One of our readers has taken our brand new eBoy t-shirt image and made his own Engadget wallpaper (which you can see a video of below) using an app from the Android Market called Live Wallpaper Creator. Needless to say, Penny is heavily featured, and it’s pretty much the best thing we’ve ever seen. [Thanks Palo] Continue reading Fan-made Engadget live wallpaper brings eBoy, floating Penny to Android Fan-made Engadget live wallpaper brings eBoy, floating Penny to Android originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 13 Oct 2010 16:27:00 EDT. Michelle Malkin notes that the American heroes in this rescue are not honored in their own country: In a different day and age, Jeff Hart would be the most famous American in our country right now. He would be honored at the White House. Schoolchildren would learn of his skill and heroism. But because Jeff Hart works in an industry under fire by the Obama administration, more people in Chile will celebrate this symbol of American greatness than in America itself. Jeff Hart is a driller based in my home state of Colorado. The father of two has been drilling water wells in Afghanistan at U.S. Army bases. When the San Jose Mine in Chile collapsed in August, he flew to lend his renowned expertise to the rescue effort. As part of an amazing three-way race to the trapped miners, Hart drilled for 33 days straight and was first to reach the caved-in workers. The AP recounts the story — and what strikes me again and again is how the world turned to American ingenuity and American fortitude and American equipment and American enterprise to get the job done. And get it done they did. As I write this nearly 20 miners have been rescued and the rest will be out before the day is done.
