CBS ‘Early Show’ Praises Perez Hilton for Giving Up Bullying, But Promoted It In the Past

At the top of Thursday's CBS Early Show, co-host Maggie Rodriguez declared that vicious gossip monger Perez Hilton “makes nice….with so much bullying going on he doesn't want to be a bully himself anymore.” While the report that followed cheered Hilton's efforts to reform himself, the morning show has been happy to promote his bullying tactics in the past. Correspondent Ben Tracy noted how Hilton “controversially outed gay performers like Lance Bass and Neil Patrick Harris.” However, on the September 25, 2008 Early Show , correspondent Michelle Gillen seemed to have no problem with it as she reported on Hollywood's acceptance of gay celebrities: “Neal Patrick Harris…remains a high profile star since he was outed by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.” A clip was played of Hilton claiming such outing was “par for the course” and Gillen concluded: “Now that 'out' is apparently 'in.'” read more

Photo credit: Environment Point Green burials have been a growing trend in the United States for some time now — and the term itself has come to encompass very different kinds of natural burials. Proving the Free Market has Room for Responsibility

What would Adam Smith think about the triple bottom line? Image credit: Wikimedia Commons, Honest Tea Many free market thinkers have used Smith’s theory to argue that business has no obligation to think about what’s best for society —that merely by pursuing the bottom line, companies are promoting the public interest. But why shouldn’t a company seek to prosper based on market forces and also try to intentionally promote the public interest?… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Obamacare has unconstitutional elements do it, and 20 states are suing based on those unconstitutional requirements. The lawsuits are being allowed to proceed : U.S. states can proceed with their lawsuit seeking to overturn President Barack Obama’s landmark healthcare reform law, a Florida judge ruled on Thursday. U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson had already indicated at a hearing last month that he could not uphold parts of a motion by the Justice Department to dismiss the lawsuit, led by Florida and 19 other states. “In this order, I have not attempted to determine whether the line between constitutional and extra-constitutional government has been crossed,” Vinson, of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, wrote in his ruling. Opponents of Obama’s overhaul of the $2.5 trillion U.S. healthcare system have said it violates the Constitution by imposing, for example, unlawful taxes and requiring citizens to obtain coverage, among other issues. “I am only saying that … the plaintiffs have at least stated a plausible claim that the line has been crossed,” Vinson said. That’s a small step in the right direction.

Blitzer, Karibjanian Tougher on O’Donnell Than Coons in Senate Debate

CNN's Wolf Blitzer and former public television anchor Nancy Karibjanian pressed Republican candidate Christine O'Donnell during Wednesday's Delaware Senate debate. While the two pressed O'Donnell on her personal finances, her past comments on evolution, and SNL poking fun of her, Karibjanian went out of her way to note Democratic candidate Chris Coons's past as a “student pastor at Yale.” The first hour of the debate, which was held at the University of Delaware, aired on CNN starting at 7:30 pm Eastern. In her very first question to O'Donnell, the former WHYY personality raised the Republican's past financial difficulties: KARIBJANIAN: Let's open the discussion on correcting some of the financial issues here by talk about some of your own personal financial problems, and most people know about it by now, including an IRS lien that was for about $12,000 in taxes and penalties from '05. There was the '08 mortgage default judgment on your home. You just received your bachelors degree, as you said, because it took a decade to pay off the tuition. The question, then, is, how can voters rely upon your thoughts on how to manage the deficit if you're having such personal financial issues of your own? read more
