June was a lifetime ago, we’ll give you that, but surely you can’t forget those 16 Optimus-based laptops that NVIDIA teased us with at Computex , right? Right . At any rate, MSI has just come clean with a delightful pair of them, the FX700 and FR700. Both of these beasts boast 17.3-inch widescreen displays, the company’s own anti-scratch, anti-smudge coating and a design that actually looks fairly attractive given the hugeness. The former also includes up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, a Core i5 processor, NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 425M (1GB), HDMI / VGA outputs, 320/500/640GB hard drives, a DVD SuperMulti drive, four USB ports (two of the SuperSpeed variety), a 5-in-1 card reader, inbuilt webcam, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, gigabit Ethernet and a 6-cell Li-ion that’ll probably exhaust itself long before you’d like it to. The FR700 includes most of the same specifications, but opts for integrated Intel graphics for those who aren’t planning to dabble too long in Crysis . Per usual, MSI’s keeping quiet when it comes to pricing and release details, but we’d be shocked if they didn’t find their way onto retail shelves pre-Christmas. MSI gets official with 17.3-inch FX700 and FR700 multimedia laptops originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 15 Oct 2010 18:32:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
Continue reading …November 3rd: GOP Falls Short This will be the headline in many mainstream media outlets on November 3rd regardless of the outcome of the election. If the GOP wins about the same number of seats as they did in 1994, as Charlie Cook is now projecting , the story will be that the Dems did better than expected because they only lost 52 seats instead of 100 and because they only lost 8 Senate seats instead of the 10 it would take to change control. The media will try to turn this election into a Dem victory lap and a big win for Obama, whose “last minute campaigning saved the day for the Democrats”.

Marketing director Scott Barclay dismissed the tea party “as another voice from the fringe.” Janis Fonteccio proclaimed: “They make statements that are just absolutely terrorizing.” Single mom Katie Gray Sadler warned: “Making a lot of noise doesn't necessarily mean you have the right answers.” Maria Reice, a registered nurse, wrapped up the tea party bashing: “It shouldn't be the Tea Party. It should be the inflammatory party.” read more

Perhaps in response to the massive media coverage of the Chilean miners’ stirring saga, China Daily is reporting that the People’s Republic of China has now shut down more than 1600 of its oldest, most unsafe mines. Two things come to mind in response to the rather amazi… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Kristina Oliver said she was happy to get on a committee for creditors in April. I honestly believed that the church was going to come up with an equitable plan to pay us all,” she said. “But now I know that all they wanted to do was string us along.” Among the vendors for the “Glory of Christmas” pageants still waiting to get paid are Oliver, who supplied camels, horses and sheep for the pageant; wardrobe manager Juliet Noriega; dry cleaner Bruce Johnson, who cleaned the actors’ costumes; props manager Sharon Crabtree, and Carin Galletta, whose public relations firm provided publicity for the pageant. Also in line are PNCEF LLC., an equipment financing company owed $2 million and several television stations that have sued the church for hundreds of thousands of dollars. According to court documents, the Cathedral owes about $7.5 million to unsecured creditors. At least two creditors, including PNCEF, have sought and obtained court-ordered writs, which could cause the megachurch to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Back in May I wrote about several musicians, including a friend of mine, who sued the Crystal Cathedral for nonpayment of fees they earned for performing in CC productions. I ran into my friend a few weeks ago and he told me

That’s not an exaggeration, either — that is essentially the message that he sends to his audience on a daily basis. But not only are environmentalists plotting, global warming hoax-ifying radicals, but they’re … Read the full story on TreeHugger
