During these last two weeks before the election I may have to start a new series called “Because They Cheat”. I posted the first example a couple of days ag o, and as I said at that time we have to beat the Dems with as big a margin as possible because they cheat. Another entry : Some 6,400 staffers and students at Winston-Salem State University received e-mail exhortations Monday to take advantage of early voting and help the Democratic Party, setting off local Republicans. After a complaint by Nathan Tabor, the chairman of the Forsyth County GOP, university officials acknowledged that the e-mail — sent from the student-affairs division — was improper. The university cited a state law that prohibits the use of a state employee’s authority or state property to support or oppose a person or an issue in any election. “We regret it,” said Nancy Young, the director of public relations at WSSU. “We sent out a retraction and said to disregard the earlier e-mail.” That wasn’t the end of it, though. Yesterday, the university sent out what Tabor called an “equal time” e-mail inviting all the same recipients to work for Republicans during early voting. That message was to be retracted by the university last night once it had been out six hours — the same amount of time the Democrat message was out before being retracted. Tabor said he’s upset that he had to call the university and complain. “That is a tax-funded school,” Tabor said, calling the original e-mail “highly illegal and unethical.” The university said it would try to discover who sent out the e-mail and whether it was sent intentionally or accidentally in a partisan form. It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to investigate and find out this was a partisan effort, intentionally sent out to promote Democrats. It could be that panic is now really setting in as early voting numbers in many areas show the GOP with significant turnout.

The car has made the rounds at car shows and left fans of the standard hybrid model anticipating the next step in the electrified evolution of the Prius. So it was a welcome surprise when I found out the Toyota folks were offering the attendees of Poptech 2010 , the prestigious culture, technology, and ideas conference, a spin in a 2012 Prius Elect… Read the full story on TreeHugger

They’ve just issued a press release stating that of six technologies nominated for IMT-Advanced (the formal name for 4G) certification, just two have emerged victorious: 802.16m WiMAX 2 — also known as WirelessMAN-Advanced — and LTE-Advanced . That would leave Sprint, Verizon, and everyone else currently deploying WiMAX and LTE technically false in advertising their latest-generation services as “4G,” though with so many technologies crowding the 3G space, we can’t necessarily blame them; heck, even EDGE and CDMA2000 without EV-DO technically qualify as 3G in the eyes of the ITU, so yeah, the situation is really just as muddled as ever. For what it’s worth, neither 802.16m nor LTE-Advanced are live anywhere in the world — and they aren’t expected to be for some time — so whether you like it or not, the UN says you’re still living a 3G existence no matter where you’re located. So close! Follow the break for the ITU’s release. Nordic countries have already sample the goods, but Sammy says that a “new” firmware update will be available in early November in the UK and should hit “all operator versions” of the phone (presumably including the Vibrant , Captivate , Epic 4G , and Fascinate ) by the end of November. YouMobile is reporting that existing regional updates have been pulled due to general not-awesomeness, so hopefully they’ll have a chance to get it right over the next couple weeks before it starts hitting again. Bush pulled back the curtain of the Oval Office and gave East Texans a picture of what his job was like during the high and low points. With trademark humor and conviction, he said he sought to lead with vision and optimism and to leave the office equal to or better than it was when he arrived. “Here’s what you learn,” he said. “You realize you’re not it. You’re a part of something bigger than yourself.” Bush spoke Tuesday before a sold-out crowd of 2,000 people during the 76th lecture as part of The University of Texas at Tyler’s Distinguished Lecture Series. He walked on the stage to a standing ovation. People in the audience were pumping their fists and whistling. One audience member shouted, “Bring back Bush,” at one point during the presentation. He would receive at least two more standing ovations before the end of his speech. Read the rest of the story. It’s a reminder of what we lost when Bush left office and the socialists took over.

The device transmits hi-def 3D images to a nearby workstation, where it is controlled by surgeons “with a precision that cannot be provided by humans alone,” according to MUHC urologist-in-chief Dr. A. Aprikian. Of course, the robots are being kept on a tight leash by their human operators, with McGill’s Dr. Thomas Hemmerling pointing out that “[r]obots will not replace doctors but help them to perform to the highest standards.” Just tell that to all the other medical robots we’ve seen in this space, eh, doc? We’ve heard they have plans. Bad plans .
