So, you may or may not have noticed that this morning, Apple updated its own Apple Store app for the very first time, and version 1.1 has a little surprise. That’s right, in the ‘Reserve Products’ screen, the much delayed white iPhone 4 shows up as an option. Now, before you lose control of yourself, keep in mind that you can’t actually reserve one… yet. Of course, this could just be some sort of cruel glitch in the system, or it could be a tiny bit of evidence that the white iPhone is actually, finally on its way. At the very least, we know that Apple’s still thinking of it… just like us. Continue reading …Tiny desktops? Good. Wimpy processors? Bad. Epson ‘s Endeavor ST150E? Possibly the best of both worlds. Sure, it’s bigger than your average nettop , about twice as tall, but for that extra girth you get a selection of Intel processors ranging from a Celeron P4600 all the way up to a Core i7-640M. It also sports a DVD-R/W drive, up to 8GB of RAM, 640GB on platters or a 64GB SSD, mountability behind an LCD, and power consumption as low as 16 watts — though we’re guessing that’s with the Celeron. Indeed you can get this built however you want, with a starting price at 64,890 yen, or just under $800. But, get liberal with the options and you could be looking at a rather less frugal 190,000 yen. That’s about $2,300, and an awful, awful lot for a little machine. Continue reading …Don Surber analyzes the latest Rasmussen generic poll: Rasmussen has its new Generic Congressional Poll out (will you vote for a Republican or Democrat) and it shows Republicans ahead 49%-40% among all likely voters. But all likely voters are not the same and among white voters , 55% support Republicans and 35% support Democrats. Democrats win the black vote 81%-12% but those votes will help them win the 40 Congressional Black Caucus seats and not much more. It is not racism. Obama’s approval/disapproval among white people is 41%/58% — or better than his party seems to be doing in that demographic group. Among mainstream voters, Republicans are up 39 points — but down 81 points among the political class. This poll also explains why the unions are planning to put 4,000 election day workers into the South Side of Chicago. They’re hoping the black turnout in that very heavily populated area might help offset their losses in other parts of the state.

Gone is the My Book-esque design that has been used on all of the units prior, and in is a sleeker, sexier box that’s quite clearly designed to slip right on top of your existing cable set-top. The WD TV Live Hub is easily Western Digital’s most feature-packed streamer yet, with a 1TB HDD within for storing who knows what locally. There’s also an Ethernet socket for pulling down content via the web or your local network, and a pair of USB ports allow for storage expansion or transfers. Naturally, it’ll handle Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, Blockbuster on Demand and UPnP / DLNA streaming to your favorite game console, but the lack of inbuilt WiFi (it’s available via an optional adapter) puts a mild damper on an otherwise fantastic sounding product. It’s available immediately around the globe, with Americans able to snag one for $199.99 directly from WD or at Best Buy. While it may still take decades for electric cars to be plentiful on our streets and in our garages, they are now at least available for the early adopters among us. And what is nearly as exciting as the cars themselves is the multitude of charging stations being designed to make home charging easy. CNET says that because the net… Read the full story on TreeHugger

If the generic GOP lead starts to fade and this continues through the weekend to a few points or nearly even on Election Day, then the GOP makes gains in the House but fails to take control, and gains three or four in the Senate. (With disappointments in places like Pennsylvania, Colorado, California and maybe Nevada.) Second, THE OKAY WAVE SCENARIO: Polling stays about where it is — with strong generic GOP lead (5 to 9 percentage points or more) as GOP leads in many Senate races stay roughly the same; in places like Washington, California and Connecticut, Democrat candidates either break 50 percent or keep a steady gap or widen it. Still, a wave election, with House gains of up to 50 or 60. But GOP fails at Senate control by two to four seats, which shows that (1) to some extent the Democrats’ strategy of individualizing senate rates with harsh negative attacks worked or (2) voters just chose to channel their anger at the Obama administration in their House voting but were discriminating – picking and choosing — in the Senate races. Third, THE HAPPY-TIMES WAVE SCENARIO: Polling stays about where it is — with strong generic GOP lead between 5 and 9 and GOP Senate candidates in Washington, California, and Connecticut still within reach (6 to 9 points down.) There you would see House gains of up to 50 or 60 or a bit beyond, and it’s a wave election that really does lift all boats and the GOP takes the Senate by a vote or two. Fourth, THE SUPERWAVE: House gains of 60 to 90, even beyond. Senate races carried along as GOP ends up with three or four vote margin in Senate. So, which one does he think is happening? Right now it’s something between the Happy-Times Wave and the Superwave. You can read the piece for more . He also adds this: Jim: Is Obama’s campaigning going to make difference? Obi-Wan: Yes, for Republicans. You know those post-election studies that show unexpected factors? I wouldn’t be surprised to see one showing that Obama orating at a rally without a jacket on instead of being president gave the country an exact daily image of what’s bothering it about him: he’s a candidate, not a president. Victor Davis Hanson wrote an interesting article about how this guy spent his whole life not really accomplishing anything but just making an impression. So he’s addicted to rallies—he needs the love. And Axelrod doesn’t know what else to do. Fire-up the base. Right. The Republican base. They should have had him playing president all election-cycle not banging a podium and working the rope line. Obama doesn’t know how to do that presidenting stuff, he only knows the campaigning stuff.
