For that, we give them credit: guitar purists are a tough bunch, and one that is most definitely resistant to change. So we can’t help but welcome (on principle alone) the Firebird X, even if our standard Firebird is way, way better looking. The Firebird X — which will retail for about $5,500 when it launches in December — features the robo-tuning head found on the Dark Fire , and a seriously sick range of vuilt-in effects, including modulation, echo, reverb, compression, EQ, and distortion. Hey, purists may grimace at that non-Firebird headstock, but let them: you’ll be jamming with some sweet effects. Mostly, it plans to try to burn that entire arena to the ground. Image credit: photo by John Laumer With Halloween 2010 only a day behind us and the mid-term elections tomorrow morning, likely-voter polls indicate Americans are up for a good ‘ hate it when that happens ‘ kick in the pants. Let’s think about some of the key outcomes of the coming Congressional turnover. Just from the standpoint of how we enviro-freak socialist pinko liberals will experience them (a tongue-in-cheek self deprecation, in case that was not obvious). Look below for my list of predetermined outcomes. Thoughtful comments welcome…. Read the full story on TreeHugger

As I understand it, at a minimum this is the first time in a very long time that something like this has occurred, and it may be unprecedented. The issue is getting a half-decent amount of play in the business press , but as a general news item, it's going almost nowhere, even though some employers are already telling employees they will have to withhold more starting on January 1, 2011 if no action is taken in Washington. At the Associated Press's main web site, the one story about the withholding issue written by Andrew Taylor that went up early this morning plays a shady game of “Y'know, it really won't be all that bad if the increases are only in effect during the early part of next year.” See if you can detect what I'm referring to in the following excerpt: read more
