Most serious film fans have a good idea of the basics of foley work: sound engineers in a studio recreate (or, in many cases, simply create) all the incidental sounds that fill out the soundtrack of a film. Most of us have probably seen Ben Burtt talk about banging on high-tension wires to create laser sounds for Star Wars, or how he layered sounds [1] and waved a microphone to create the signature… Broadcasting platform : Vimeo Source : /Film Discovery Date : 05/11/2010 18:26 Number of articles : 7
Continue reading …As Burma approaches its first election in 20 years, a “distributed denial of service” attack has paralyzed Internet use within the dictator-ed country, knocking Burmese citizens from online communication in what analysts believe is an attempt by the ruling military dictatorship to restrict the flow of information in the country. The “distributed denial of service” attack is just a fancy way of saying that many computers were programmed to very rapidly visit certain web sites, overwhelming the national network with millions of automatic web page requests. The last election seen in Burma was in 1990 when democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi won a landslide victory… which was then ignored by the ruling military dictatorship. —JCL ’ The BBC: ed An ongoing computer attack has knocked Burma off the internet, just days ahead of its first election in 20 years. The attack started in late October but has grown in the last few days to overwhelm the nation’s link to the net, said security firm Arbor Networks. Reports from Burma say the disruption is ongoing. Continue reading …This, friends, is what happens when convergence is approached correctly. Rather than asking you to keep yet another remote in the hopper, one Phil Irey has crafted DVPRemote — a lovely iOS app that enables your iPhone or iPod touch to act as your main control mechanism for any Roku set-top box. The app itself has been floating around in the App Store for a tick, but its the newly released version 2.0 that’s really of interest. This build ushers in a completely overhauled user interface, and aside from providing the standard Roku shuffle controls, it actually goes above and beyond to make your night easier. There’s full integration with Netflix to support automated Instant Queue navigation, full keyboard support for any screen that requires text entry, direct navigation to user-organizable Channels, toolbars for added channel functionality within Netflix and support for the new “Instant Replay”, “Info”, and “Back” buttons. Heck, it’s even compatible with iOS 4′s background operation protocol. Head on past the break for a hearty demonstration, and tap that iTunes link when you’re ready to ditch Apple’s own Remote App and part ways with $2.99. In interviews in New Zealand, the failed 2008 presidential candidate made clear she had no plans to run again despite talk — fueled partly by her fellow Democrats’ losses in Tuesday’s U.S. mid-term elections — she might embark on a new race. Asked by TV3 New Zealand whether she ruled out standing for the top U.S. office through 2016, Clinton, according to a U.S. reporter, replied: “Oh yes, yes. I’m very pleased to be doing what I’m doing as secretary of state.” In a separate interview with TV New Zealand, Clinton said she hoped the United States was ready for a female president, adding “it should be.” Asked if it might be her, she replied: “Well, not me. But it will be someone and it is nice coming to countries that have already proven that they can elect women to the highest governing positions that they have in their systems.” I’m not convinced yet she couldn’t be persuaded to change her mind of some sort of “Draft Hillary” movement cropped up to try and save the Democrats from Obama in 2012. One thing for sure, the boys at Hillbuzz will be really bummed.
