The forecast for 2010 was increased from 14.2 gigawatts (GW) to 15.8 GW, in good part thanks to stronger than expected demand in Germany. If accurate, this would represent 118.7% growth from 7.2GW in 2009! But sadly, 2011 won’t see another 100%+ increase; the forecast for that year is of 19.3 GW, down a bit from the pre… Read the full story on TreeHugger

We seldom get excited by such things, but this video from the CES New York press preview has us seriously itching to upgrade our plastic. Card 2.0 is the computing platform powering the new Citi cards that re-write the magnetic strip depending on whether you want to spend you cash or your rewards points. The technology fits snugly in your credit card, is waterproof, has a battery life upwards of four years, allows multiple accounts on a single card, and even can be used to require a PIN before displaying the card number. This is some pretty awesome stuff indeed — but don’t take our word for it! Get a peep yourself in the video after the break. The Conservative Integration Spokesman Naser Khader, however, says that pictures of topless girls on a Danish beach would hardly scare extremists away from applying to stay in Denmark. “Bare breasts are not a protection against fundamentalism,” Khader says on his Facebook page. “Quite on the contrary. Fundamentalists as so sex crazy that bare breasts would make them flock to the country. Perhaps one should try naked pigs and pork – that’ll keep them away…” Khader says. The Danish People’s Party Spokesman Peter Skaarup has explained that in the Netherlands, where a similar film has been shown, they show the naked truth about what can be seen on a beach. “There are of course a lot of other things that show what it is to be Danish, and I’m sure that the film-maker has found them. But I reckon that if you can’t stand seeing a couple of Danish breasts, you probably won’t come here,” Skaarup tells Berlingske Tidende. I’m not sure bare breasts will do what they really want to do, but handing out bacon before the meeting might get the job done.

But scientists are still working to measure the impact of coral bleachings that occurred back in 2005 — a year that caused record losses in the Atlantic and Caribbean. Reports show that over 80% of the corals surveyed that year experienced bleaching, and 40% of them died, making it the most severe bleaching ever recorde… Read the full story on TreeHugger
