8-inch robot wreaks havoc on Denver commuters, Cylon war narrowly averted

The Capricans in Denver, Colorado should can consider themselves blessed by the Gods. An 8-inch tall Centurion was spotted near Coors Field park, prompting one citizen to notify the police. You probably know what happened next: adjacent 20th street was closed causing rush hour traffic to pile up, and two hours later, after being unable to determine at the time if it was safe, the bomb squad remotely detonated the little Centurion. Move along, nothing to see here. It’s not like they walk among us in human form or anything. Yet. Ask Engadget: best alternative to a cable company-issued set-top box?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Ozair, who is no longer down with forking out monthly for a subpar DVR experience. If you’re looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com . “With the unveiling of (pricey) Google TV, what are the other, cheaper alternatives to setting up HDTV via a cable box rather than renting out Optimum / Cablevision’s outdated and laggy set-top box? TiVo? Any other standalone DVRs? Something I’m not considering?” For those of you who’ve purchased a standalone DVR + CableCARD setup (or possibly even an HTPC + CableCARD setup), how are you enjoying it? Let this fellow know your optimal arrangement down in comments below — make it quick, it’s not like he can afford to miss this year’s burning of the Yule Log in HD. UK forces in Helmand ‘made mess of things’: WikiLeaks

LONDON (AFP) – US and Afghan officials slammed British troops over their efforts in the restive Helmand province of Afghanistan, accusing them of making “a mess of things,” in cables revealed by WikiLeaks. The Guardian newspaper Friday published a raft of leaked memos in which senior officials, including Afghan President Hamid Karzai, criticised British troops for their inability to impose security in the southern province. In a memo sent in April 2007, General Dan McNeill, the then commander of NATO…

Joe ‘You Lie’ Wilson Defends Anti-Gay Caller’s Remarks, Ignores Negative Impact of DADT and Defends His SOTU Outburst

Click here to view this media Rep. Joe “You Lie” Wilson appeared on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal and after ignoring the concerns of a caller who pointed out how the military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy is not working and responded by saying it did, he then defended as Think Progress pointed out, an anti-gay caller’s remarks. This man sounded like nothing but a broken John McCain talking points regurgitation machine during this interview, but with even less tact than McCain is capable of when defending his continually moving goalposts on DADT. Rep. Joe Wilson Thanks C-SPAN Caller For Anti-Gay Remarks : Wilson received a number of passionate calls on the issue, including one from a self-described “heterosexual 72-year-old Christan woman” who had been married for 49 years, who said she must “speak up” to Wilson, and offered a passionate defense of Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach and Lt. Dan Choi , who were both discharged under DADT. Wilson dismissed her pleas and moved onto the next caller, who went on an offensive anti-gay tirade, saying that no homosexuals are “great” and “all can be replaced in America.” Wilson did not rebuke the caller for the hateful comments, and actually thanked him: CALLER: Good Morning. Mr Wilson thank you. I try to hear your opening remarks on the floor every day, and I thank God we have someone that stood up to the establishment in Washington and called the lie a liar. Thank you. Now another thing. I can’t believe we’re talking about people — they’re not even one percent of our population, and we’re so worried about their sexual activities. Why are we talking — these people don’t even represent one percentage, not even one percent. And all can be replaced in America. None are great. None are number one. All can be replaced . Mr. Wilson, thank you from a third generation union member in Detroit, Michigan, where people do not want to get off unemployment. REP. WILSON: Well, thank you for your comments . I truly believe the system we have is working, but we need to have hearings. I’m happy to have hearings on any issue we’ve raised this morning. And that’s why I appreciate the incoming chairman Buck McKeon. Chairman McKeon will be having hearings this coming year, and we can go over this issue in a very calm way, but this should not be done in a lame duck session. Earlier in the show Wilson also defended his outburst during the president’s State of the Union address where he yelled out “you lie!” to President Obama and called his admonishment by the House for his political stunt… get this… a political stunt. This guy’s hypocrisy button is apparently severely broken. Click here to view this media

Do you realize the embarrassment of riches I had in picking a video of Sarah Palin insulting President Barack Obama ? Apparently, the foreign media isn’t as fearful of the tea party backlash as the American media is. They have no problem whatsoever saying what you will NEVER hear from any American media outlet: Sarah Palin is a traitor . Sarah Palin has made it to the big time; she’s now being called out by international media. Yesterday, the Russian newspaper Pravda (this same paper has been quoted in numerous Right Wing publications when it criticized President Obama, and was considered a paper of merit at such time) eviscerated Sarah Palin for her unrelenting attacks upon the democratically elected President, at a time when America needs to stand together, united. When members of the International Press call Sarah Palin out for her lack of American patriotism, it’s time for the American Press to pay attention. It’s about time someone did. Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey writes in Pravda: “By attacking the democratically elected President of the United States of America at a sensitive time in her country’s history, she shows the tact of a boorish drunkard bawling obscenities at a funeral…. And now she turns not only against the fibre and backbone of her country, but against its democratically elected President, accusing him of being incompetent for not stopping Wikileaks. Where was she and where was her GOP before and during the 9/11 attacks? She accuses President Obama of not taking “steps” to assure the leaks were not published. What “steps”?…… If anything is a threat to the national security of the United States of America, it is this screaming, unrefined oaf with as much class as a searing release of flatulence followed by hysterical giggling at a state banquet. Is this what the people of the USA deserve? One of my never-ending frustrations with the state of politics today is the absolutely hypocritical double standards in the national dialogue. Democratic politicians and activists will meekly question flagrant violations of law and their Republican counterparts will scream to the high heavens and condemn them on the floors of Congress. But Republicans can say the most egregious and outrageous things and no one will say boo. We still have two wars going on, an economy devastated by Republican policies, millions of people out of work and hurting (and the Republicans playing obstruction games over people’s lives) and yet some failed quitter of a governor, who mangles the English language and issues edicts that the media waits breathlessly for on Facebook can insult the President in a variety of ways and the media is afraid to point out the hypocrisy and idiocy.
