You won’t have a difficult time hunting down a charger these days, but hunting down a good one? Now that’s a challenge. If you’re looking for something that’s off of the beaten path (and shamelessly fond of Ma Earth), Idapt’s new i1 Eco may be precisely what the doctor ordered. It’s a universal charger with two points of charger: a USB port and a tip port, the latter of which is useful for “over 4,000 gadgets” include the iPad, iPhone, PSP, your Xbox 360 controller and your GPS unit. It features an auto-off system that disables it when not in use, and a restart button kicks things back into gear when the time comes. It’s slated to ship this spring, but only heaven knows for how much. We don’t have full details yet, but Acer has just launched three new Aspire laptops, all featuring AMD’s Fusion APU. Up first, the 10.1-inch Aspire One 522 — which we’ve seen previously — boasts the AMD C-50 APU, AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics, and it supports 1080p video with HDMI output. The 10.1-inch panel has WXGA resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and other features include Wi-Fi and LAN, plus optional Bluetooth or 3G. The Aspire One 522 will come in green or black. No word on pricing or availability yet. The other two offerings Acer has announced are the Aspire 15.6-inch 5253 and the 14-inch 4253. These bad boys feature AMD’s E-Series accelerated processing unit, as well as its Vision engine. The Aspire 5253 can pack up to 8GB of DDR3 SDRAM, and both laptops feature 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi. There’s no pricing or availability information for these, yet either, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do. Turns out Motorola’s just-announced Atrix 4G for AT&T will be available with a setup they’re simply calling the Laptop Dock that pairs up with an app on the phone — Webtop — to transform the Atrix into a full-fledged smartbook. All you do, it seems, is dock the phone into a larger, 13.9mm thick chassis — great for those times when nothing other than a big physical keyboard will do. We don’t know how much it’s going to cost on top of the phone itself, but something tells us it won’t be a bundled accessory. More details as we have them. Robots, Arduino , and monsters are all very close to our new-age, gadget-loving hearts. The folks over at Union Bridge Labs have created a half-monster, half-machine dubbed the Yarn Monster. This little cubic beast has one job — to eat yarn and shape it into a perfectly rolled ball of, well, yarn. It’s powered by a ton of hardware, from a stepper motor to Arduino components to even a universal mounting hub. Instructions to control speed of the nom-noming are sent to the Arduino via XBee from a remotely connected potentiometer which can also reverse the direction of yarn-ball rolling. We encourage you to spend your hard-earned dough (about $130), buy the proper components and build one of these things to impress your loved ones.
