France’s state railway company has apologized for its role in deporting Jews to be slaughtered by the Nazis during World War II—but the move seems only to have caused more outrage. “In the name of the SNCF, I bow down before the victims, the survivors, the children of those…

Rude Gameware’s Fierce Laser Gaming Mouse v2 has a long name and a lengthy spec sheet

When the crew at Rude Gameware aren’t flipping burgers , they’re building gaming gear — like this Fierce Laser Gaming Mouse V2 — and while we haven’t seen anything particularly groundbreaking, there’s some bang for the buck to be had. This rodent in particular brings the heat with a 5000dpi laser sensor with a 1ms response time and 1000Hz polling rate, on-board memory to save configurations and macros for each of its seven programmable buttons, adjustable weights and on-the-fly DPI, a braided cord and even a moderately comfortable-looking design. Best of all, it’ll manage to deliver all that for a nickel shy of $50 next month. Oh, it’ll have some storied competitors at that price point, to be sure, but now you have more choices. Isn’t capitalism grand? PR after the break. Tunisia unveils new cabinet in bid to end protests

TUNIS: Tunisia on Thursday unveiled major changes to its interim government in a bid to put an end to daily protests against figures linked to ousted president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali who stayed on in key posts. Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi, who also served under Ben Ali, said on state television that he would remain but the crucial defence, foreign and interior ministry posts were replaced with new figures. “This is a temporary government with a clear mission — to allow a transition to democracy. Its mission is to organise elections in which the people will be completely free to choose,” Ghannouchi said in his address. “The situation is difficult and we must concentrate our efforts…

Rep. John Boehner retreated from his earlier assertions that we should raise the retirement age to 70 to begin collecting Social Security. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he “made a mistake” when he suggested raising the retirement age to 70 last year. The Speaker indicated he was premature in suggesting raising the legal age at which retirees are eligible for full Social Security benefits, since he didn’t want to pre-judge a debate over how to fix the entitlement program. He said he wouldn’t rule out raising the retirement age, however. “I made a mistake when I did that, because I think having the conversation about how big the problem is is the first step,” Boehner said Wednesday evening on CNN . “And once the American people understand how big the problem is, then you can begin to outline an array of possible solutions.” His comments walk back remarks from late June, when he said the retirement age would eventually need to be raised by five years , from 65 to 70. “I think that raising the retirement age — going out 20 years, so you’re not affecting anyone close to retirement — and eventually getting the retirement age to 70 is a step that needs to be taken,” he said at the time. Republicans have been talking tough on entitlements and Social Security, and GOP leaders in the House have expressed dissatisfaction with President Obama’s comments about the program during his State of the Union address on Tuesday. He doesn’t mind using the lie that our life expectancy is going up to attack Social Security benefits. “When you look at life expectancy in America today and you look at the Social Security system, we’re all living far longer than anyone had ever anticipated and the result of these big demographic changes is having a disastrous effect on the Social Security program,” he said. “And so raising the retirement age or considering it is something that ought to be on the table.” These rich politicians and pundits have no problem saying we have to have an adult conversation . I guess lying is an adult thing to do.

BlackBerry Messenger 6 details leaked, we fear for addicts everywhere

Details of the new BlackBerry Messenger are leaking out all over the internet today, and what we’re seeing is an app that could make your CrackBerry even more impossible to put away. In a move that shows RIM’s eagerness to loosen up a bit, BBM 6 could be adding at least one new feature that isn’t exactly boardroom-appropriate: gaming. Rumor has it that the app’s new iteration, which will run on OS 5.0 and greater, incorporates a function that allows users to use their BBM name as their gamer name, as well as update their status automatically to reflect completed gaming tasks. BBM 6 would also allow for larger chat groups and cross chat. We’ve no real way of predicting the app’s impact, but if the rumors turn out to be true, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a second coming of the BlackBerry massage .
