Bill Maher: Sarah Palin Would ‘F–k’ Rick Perry If He Was Black

For the second week in a row since returning from his summer hiatus, it didn't take HBO's Bill Maher long to begin attacking conservatives. Roughly one minute into his opening monolog on Friday's “Real Time,” the host mocked Texas governor Rick Perry's performance at Thursday's presidential debate and disgustingly quipped, “Sarah Palin was watching and she said, 'If only he was black, I'd f–k him'” (video follows with transcript and commentary, vulgarity alert):

Pre 3 for AT&T review

This is a review of a phone that was never actually released to the public on AT&T. Despite the unfortunateness of the prior statement, we felt obligated to run this device through the wringer as a final farewell to Palm, the Pre line and webOS on consumer devices. Man, what a weird, labyrinthine life this device has had. European carriers didn’t even want the Pre 2 , and for whatever reason, those folks were the only ones to even get the Pre 3. Excluding this guy, of course. This guy, as you’ve probably gleaned, is one of only a handful of AT&T Pre 3 handsets to make it out of the factory unscathed, and we couldn’t be happier to be putting it through the paces. Well… we could be happier, but that would require Meg Whitman undoing Leo’s departing shot through the webOS heart. All that aside, it’s been a strange few days with the final webOS-based phone, and in a sense, the final phone that’ll ever have Palm’s DNA running through its circuitry. Not even two months ago, HP was telling developers to get their Pre 3 app submissions in for approval, and a mere four weeks ago, the same company affirmed that this very phone wouldn’t ever arrive on US shores. You know, despite that whole ” being announced for AT&T ” thing. Turns out, a few of those units actually did pass the requisite QA tests, and if you’ve got the right connections (or a quick enough trigger finger on eBay), you too can land yourself what’ll undoubtedly go down as one of the most highly sought after pieces of Palm / webOS history. But should you? Find out after the break. Federal Government Pays Dead Workers $120 Million A Year: Report

As politicians debate the best way to address the national deficit, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management has found one line-item that would seem easy to cut: payments to dead federal workers. The federal government’s Civil Service Retirement and Disability fund has improperly paid dead federal workers $120 million annually over the last five years, a new OPM report finds. One man, whose father died in 1971, continued to receive payments until 2008 when he himself died, costing the government $515,000, according to the report. Patrick E. McFarland, the OPM’s Inspector General, called the improper payments a “waste of taxpayer money” in the report. And with stories like these, it’s less surprising that Americans say the government wastes more than half of taxpayer money, according to a recent Gallup poll. The posthumous payments are often the result of survivors failing to report a retired workers death, which is why the OPM is asking Retirement Services to pursue measures such as an annual computer match between its annuity role and the Social Security Administration’s death records, according to the report. The OPM also surveyed a sample of those over 90 on its annuity role to make sure they were still alive, as part of its “Over 90 Project” in 2009. Even with video messages on OPM’s website encouraging survivors to report retirees deaths in a timely fashion, the jobs crisis may make survivors more interested in reaping benefits. One Florida man didn’t report his wife’s death in 2003 because he was out of a job, according to records obtained by The Washington Times through the Freedom of Information Act. “Due to lack of … employment, he didn’t really care to make any notification because he needed the money,” OPM investigators wrote in a memo, according to the Times. Though paying retirement benefits to dead workers may be one of the more egregious examples of waste, the report said compared to other benefits programs the CSRD fund’s improper payment rate is “arguably low.” Still, improper post-death payments cost the government $601 million in the last five years, according to the report. Government workers and their families aren’t the only ones getting posthumous benefits, however. Some CEO contracts have “golden coffin” clauses, according to AlterNet, which stipulate that their families will get paid millions if they die while working for the company.

Nancy Upton On ‘Today’ Show, Talks American Apparel <![CDATA[&]]> Plus-Size Modeling (VIDEO)

Nancy Upton took some pictures and made a Tumblr. Three weeks later, she’s on the “Today” Show. The plus-sized Texas woman, if you recall, entered American Apparel’s controversial “The Next Big Thing” plus-size modeling contest, where “booty-ful” girls were encouraged to post pictures of themselves on the retailer’s website in a chance to become the new face of American Apparel’s plus-size line. Upton found the entire project, which mocked the plus-size girls with sarcastic, punny language as it recruited them, to be insulting… so she submitted to the contest with some sarcastic (NSFW) pictures of her own. To her surprise, she won the contest. And American Apparel was none too happy, sending her a scathing letter saying, “We have decided to award the prizes to other contestants that we feel truly exemplify the idea of beauty inside and out, and whom we will be proud to have representing our company.” Big mistake. Since then American Apparel has backtracked, complimenting Upton and inviting her out to its factory in Los Angeles to meet with the company’s creative directors (who masterminded the plus-size contest). Upton spoke to the “Today” Show about American Apparel’s “condescending” and “insulting” contest, why she made her racy, food-covered photos and what she hopes she can teach American Apparel about marketing to plus-size customers. Morgan Freeman: Tea Party Is Racist, They’re Out To Get Obama

Morgan Freeman laid down the chips on the Tea Party in a new interview with Piers Morgan that is due to air Friday night. The Oscar-winning actor sat down with the British TV host and, amongst other things, discussed his belief that the right wing Tea Party’s anti-Obama stance is rooted in racism. When asked by Morgan whether Obama’s presidency has made racism in the United States better or worse, Freeman, who once played apartheid-defying South African president Nelson Mandela, frankly stated that his time in office has made it worse, as he has become a target of the right’s aggression. “Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term,” the actor said. “What’s, what does that, what underlines that? ‘Screw the country. We’re going to whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here.’” Declaring once again that “it’s a racist thing,” Freeman said the group’s rise has shown the hate still lingering in America. “Well, it just shows the weak, dark, underside of America,” he said. “We’re supposed to be better than that. We really are. That’s, that’s why all those people were in tears when Obama was elected president. “Ah, look at what we are. Look at how, this is America.” You know? And then it just sort of started turning because these people surfaced like stirring up muddy water.” The actor continued, saying that he understood President Obama not fighting back, seeking to stick to his principles, but wishes that he’d be more aggressive now. Freeman endorsed Obama during his run for the presidency, but declined to campaign with him, saying that he was an actor, not a politician. He attended a White House Civil Rights concert in 2010. T-Mobile’s FlexPay plan to be eliminated as soon as December?

We’ve suspected for some time now that post AT&T-Mobile merger, Magenta’s FlexPay plan would be on its way out sooner rather than later. The payment plan was originally discontinued for new customers back in July, but now it appears the company will completely phase out FlexPay as early as December — forcing loyalists from the old regime to choose an alternate plan and clearing the way for postpaid and Monthly 4G alternatives. According to the leaked memo intercepted by TmoNews , customers who migrate to Postpaid plans will be able to keep the same rates , migrate without signing a contract or paying fees — making the switch a little less painful. RIP FlexPay, you’ll be missed. T-Mobile’s FlexPay plan to be eliminated as soon as December? originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 24 Sep 2011 12:54:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds .
