That Android 3.1 update that Google announced during I/O is slowly rolling out to 3G Xoom owners as we speak. How’d we know such a thing? Why, it just landed on our in-house Xoom, of course! Most of the changes to Honeycomb are happening under the hood — better HTML5 support, faster performance, and USB host functionality for connecting peripherals like game controllers and mice — but there are some improvements that will be a lot more obvious to the user. Perhaps our favorite is the addition of resizable widgets. For the moment only the email and Gmail inbox, calendar and bookmarks widgets can be stretched or shrunk, but we’re sure others will follow. We’re particularly appreciative of the expandable calendar widget, which always felt a tad cramped. The task switcher also received a much requested upgrade and now lets you scroll through your last 18 launched apps, instead of just the five most recent. Lastly, the Android Market now offers movie rentals, alongside books and apps, which range in price from $1.99 to $4.99 for 24 hours of playback. There isn’t a ton of revolutionary stuff going on here, but it’s certainly a welcome and worthwhile update. Check out the video after the break to see Android 3.1 in action. Click here to view this media CNN’s John King talked to former Bushie and Republican operative Ed Gillespie about whether we should actually take flame thrower Newt Gingrich’s presidential run seriously and they focused in on whether it might bother voters that he’s been married three times. What they failed to note is that the details of his two divorces and how that somehow squares with him being a so-called “Christian conservative” are completely at odds with each other and that hypocrisy might bother voters quite a bit more than the number of marriages he’s had. The HuffPo laid out a timeline of Gingrich’s divorces and affairs here — Newt Gingrich: Marriages, Divorces, Affairs Timeline . And our corporate media continues to ignore that he left one of his wives while she was recovering from cancer surgery. So much for those family values . And as John wrote about here earlier this year, David Frum criticized Gingrich for not just dumping one sick wife, but two . Fox “News” can attempt to clean up Gingrich’s image all they want along with some of their fellow enablers in our corporate media as CNN did here, but I don’t think there’s enough lipstick out there to cover up this pig. Gingrich is nothing but a huge flaming hypocrite who says inflammatory things every chance he gets and I don’t think he’s any more a serious candidate for president than Trump was. Transcript via CNN : KING: We asked about Newt Gingrich, opinion of Newt Gingrich in our poll — 30 percent favorable, 44 percent unfavorable, 26 percent, unsure. A 44 percent unfavorable is not a good place to start a campaign for president. GILLESPIE: I think that 2012 is going to be a very big election. It’s going to be over big things — the direction of the country, the economy, national security, the war on terror, all the things that are in play. And the bigger, the better, I suspect, for Speaker Gingrich. You know, he’s someone who revels in big ideas. And so, you know, I think some of these concerns, legitimate concerns. He’s going to have to address them. But I think his bet is, though people will look past some of those concerns because — because he has the kind of big ideas that the country’s looking for now. KING: Do you think a concern they will look past — and you hear this when you talk to social conservatives in Iowa, social conservatives in South Carolina, is the that fact he’s been married three times? GILLESPIE: That will be an issue for a segment of the Republican primary electorate, in particularly, in the two early states you mentioned, in Iowa and South Carolina. But, look, you know, if the concern over, you know, a third marriage is disqualifying in the voters’ minds, Gingrich is not going to be able to convince them otherwise. They’re outside his reach from the get-go. I don’t think they’re a majority of the voters though and he’s got to piece together a coalition of voters who don’t have that, don’t consider that to be disqualifying in order to capture the nomination. And, you know, the fact that the rules have changed in the Republican primary in a way where many of the states, you know, in March, are proportional delegates, you know, that may mitigate against that in some ways.

It’s been a long road back to the top for Britney Spears. The pop diva, so successful through the late 90′s and much of the first decade of the new century, fell apart in 2008: at the beginning of that year, she was hospitalized and put on a mental hold, under the influence of drugs and a crippling relationship with ex-husband Kevin Federline and their children. With the help of her parents — who still have her under conservatorship — she’s rebuilt her career under a new manager, boyfriend Jason Trawick. But her ex-manager, Sam Lutfi, is less than pleased about how he’s been portrayed during the journey back, and is suing Spears’ mom, Lynne, for defamation. Spears’ parents claimed that Lutfi used to drug Spears and harassed her post-breakdown. Lutfi wants his one-time client to testify in the court case, but according to Billboard, her parents are claiming that she is “mentally incapable” of doing so. Lufti, who is under the command of a restraining order to stay away from Spears, says that claim is bogus. He had an expert witness analyze a Spears interview with Ryan Seacrest and an MTV documentary, with the witness submitting to the court that, from what he can tell, Spears is more than capable of testifying to the court: “In the Ryan Seacrest interview, which was recorded approximately two months ago, Britney Spears is interviewed at length, and she responds logically and coherently to questions, evidencing logical thinking and mental competency. The edited interviews in the [MTV] video documentary also evidence coherent and logical thinking, responsiveness to questions, and mental competence … In my opinion, there is good cause to conduct an Independent Medical Examination to investigate the Conservators’ claim that Ms. Spears is not mentally capable of testifying, and the claim that she was not mentally competent to enter into a binding contract. …” Spears is now a publicly facing pop star once again, with custody over her children, so perhaps Lutfi’s claim is correct — she may be facing taking a mental exam to find out. Either way, it’s a painful reminder of a highly covered breakdown, one that Spears more than likely would like the public to forget. In a more positive development, Spears recently released a star-studded remix of her song, “Til the World Ends,” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha. For more, click over to Billboard.
