Slacker intros Radio Plus subscription service, makes Premium Radio look like Basic Radio

Internet radio provider Slacker is bulldozing the thin line dividing itself from subscription-based music services today, with the launch of Radio Plus. The new pricing tier joins the existing gratis Basic Radio and ad-free Premium Radio plans, adding an all-you-can-eat music model akin to services like Rhapsody and Rdio . Subscribers who shell out $9.99 a month receive all of the features of the $4.99 Premium Radio users, plus unlimited access to eight million songs, letting them listen to what they want, when the want, and generally play god with the site’s existing radio services. Radio Plus also gives you on- and offline access to music on a number of mobile devices, including the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android, and BlackBerry handsets — not to mention unlimited bragging rights to all of your broke friends who are still rocking the Basic Radio plan. The New York Police Department is denying that two of its cops are suspects in the Long Island serial killings. Ten sets of human remains, including four women identified as call girls, have been found along an isolated stretch of Jones Beach Island since December. On Sunday, the New York Post reported that a current and a former New York City policeman who had both gotten into hot water for soliciting prostitutes while on the job were being eyed in the murders. The ex-cop resigned in the 1990s when his bosses learned he was paying for sex when he was supposed to be fighting crime. The other policeman is still on the force, but was reassigned to a desk job after he was arrested in a sting operation for allegedly assaulting a prostitute. No charges were brought against him however. NYPD brass denied the New York Post report. “No NYPD officer has been identified as a suspect,” NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told Newsday. “I have no information that an individual who retired 20 years ago is a suspect either.” It was also reported today that an unnamed NYPD officer was one of the last people to contact one of the victims before she died. Maureen Brainard-Barnes, a Connecticut call girl who disappeared from Manhattan in 2007, was contacted by a cop living on Staten Island. The details of their conversation are unknown. Investigators believe there could be as many as four killers responsible for the slayings. In a psychological sketch of the possible killer, The New York Times reported last month that some investigators think the murderer might have a law enforcement background. Ed Schultz re-introduced his “Psycho Talk” segment on Monday after deciding in January to shelve the feature following the tragic shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) in Tucson. This ended up being quite fitting, for earlier in the program, Schultz engaged in some psycho talk of his own accusing Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich of wanting to end the food stamp program “to give tax breaks to old white millionaires” (video follows with transcript and commentary): ED SCHULTZ: Now as far as food stamps go, President Obama inherited, may we point out, an economic mess from President Bush that has led to a record number of Americans needing help just to put food on the table. Gingrich of course is hell-bent on election. He just wants to cut these 42, 44.2 million Americans who currently use food stamps to give tax breaks to old white millionaires. That’s his priority. If Gingrich has his way on food stamps, you know who it’s going to hurt? African-Americans, women and children, and millions of low-income families. The Republican Party still can’t win on issues so their only chance is to play the race card again. Honestly, why are liberal media members so racist and so ignorant? As NewsBusters reported Sunday, there are more white people in America receiving food stamps than blacks. As such, how can food stamps be some kind of racist code? As this is preposterous, isn't it Schultz and his ilk that are playing the race card again? And is it really too difficult for folks like NBC's David Gregory , Salon's Joan Walsh , and Schultz to do some research to better understand the demographic breakdown of food stamp usage? It took me just seconds on Google to find a 2005 study by the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire which found that in rural areas, 53 percent of food stamp recipients were white as compared to 27 percent black. In urban areas, this breakdown was 34 percent white to 35 percent black. Is asking too much for major news organizations to do a little fact-checking before they make totally unqualified statements that falsely impugn the character of our nation's political leaders? Yeah, I know – these aren't news organizations. They're left-wing advocates posing as news organizations. And they should all be ashamed of themselves.
