Maddow has repeatedly decried what she views as a double standard: Weiner was forced out because of his sexts and pictures, but Republicans like David Vitter and John Ensign managed to stay in office even though they broke the law. “Democrats have not only refused to hold Republicans accountable for the double standard, but they have joined with Republicans in piling on with the demands that Anthony Weiner had to resign even as David Vitter stays in the Senate,” Maddow said. She then went on a long monologue, listing all the Republicans and Democrats who were not forced out of office even after admitting to more serious ethical violations than Weiner. “Anthony Weiner, who was not accused of corruption, who does not appear to have done anything illegal, who does not even appear to have had sex with any of the women with any of the people with whom he had scandalous talk and picture-taking, for him a line was drawn,” Maddow concluded, her voice bristling with anger. She then turned her focus on the media, saying that the story was actually “the media covering the media ending a man’s career.” Maddow ended by addressing Democrats. She issued a dire warning. “Congratulations, Democrats,” she said. “In an era of unhinged, ideological, big money conservative media that is wholly and admittedly divorced from the precepts of journalism, in hounding Anthony Weiner into resigning … you have just fed and unleashed this beast onto yourselves, probably for a generation.” WATCH: Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

The conservative group Turn Right USA released video earlier this week depicting Janice Hahn as a stripper. GOP congressional candidate Craig Huey has publicly denounced the ad . “Along with many other residents of the South Bay I am outraged over this racist and sexist ad,” Huey said. “I unequivocally denounce it.” “The ad was not authorized and not affiliated with my campaign. Whether people agree with my politics or not, anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I would not participate in something of this nature.” Hahn appeared on MSNBC Thursday after filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). “Explain exactly why your campaign believes your opponent’s campaign has got something to do with this,” MSNBC’s Ed Schultz asked Hahn. “What’s the connection that you believe to be?” “Well, you know, we’re asking for — we filed a complaint with the FEC, and we’re asking for an investigation because we think there are some links between my opponent’s campaign and this so-called independent expenditure,” Hahn replied. “The P.O. box from one of his campaign vendors and this Super PAC Turn Right USA had the exact same address in the same retail shopping center.” “It portrays, you know, the African-American community as being a bunch of gangsters and thugs and wielding an AK-47s while they’re, you know, calling me the B word. It is sexist. It is racist. And it is vulgar. And again, has no place in a congressional campaign — in any campaign,” she added. “Are you going to call your opponent on it?” Schultz wondered. “Well, you know, I have called him on it. And I think he took way too long to come out and denounce it. It was like 36 hours that video was up that he didn’t denounce it,” Hahn explained. “And I’ve been asking him to call for it to be taken down, which he has not done.” As of Friday morning, the video was still available on YouTube .

Instead, on Friday night ABC offered a bunch of ways to describe Melaku , who caused a major incident when his car was found hidden in bushes near the Pentagon — starting with anchor Diane Sawyer who identified him simply as a “Marine Lance Corporal.” Reporter Pierre Thomas referred to him as “the suspect” multiple times as well as a “Marine reservist,” “a 22-year old Ethiopian American” and a “lone wolf.” ABC, at least, took the incident seriously, running a full story. NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams read a short item in which he cited the actions of “a Marine reservist.” The CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley didn’t utter a syllable about it. Flashback to November of 2009 Ft. Hood murder spree: “ CBS and NBC Fail to ID Hasan as Muslim; ABC's Raddatz Relays: 'I Wish His Name was Smith '” From the Friday, June 17 ABC World News, closed-captioning corrected against the video by the MRC’s Brad Wilmouth: DIANE SAWYER: And a 22-year-old Marine Lance Corporal is behind bars tonight in a Washington, D.C., terror scare. The area around the Pentagon was thrown into chaos this morning by a backpack loaded with suspicious materials. The FBI says he apparently acted alone, but who was he? And what exactly was his plan? Senior justice correspondent Pierre Thomas has been on this story all day. Pierre? PIERRE THOMAS: Diane, it was a tense morning here at the Pentagon, as police feared they had uncovered a terrorist plot. Now, they are racing to find out if the suspect was mentally unstable or a lone wolf terrorist. It all began at 2 a.m when an Army policeman confronted a man at Arlington Cemetery. The man flees. Police run him down and find something alarming. The suspect, Marine reservist Yonathan Melaku, a 22-year-old Ethiopian-American, is carrying a backpack filled with four Ziploc bags of a substance that looks like ammonium nitrate, a key bomb-making material. Also inside, spent 9 mm ammunition and a notebook containing the words “Taliban rules,” “mujahadin” and “defeated coalition forces.” They also find the suspect's car hidden in the bushes off a Pentagon parking lot. Police fear the worst. They worry the suspect has planted bombs at the cemetery in the Iwo Jima Memorial, located just a mile from the Pentagon. SERGEANT DAVE SCHLOSSER, U.S. PARK POLICE: The question is are there multiple devices and are these devices at various sites around here? THOMAS: They shut down traffic all around the Pentagon. Authorities later raced to Melaku’s suburban Virginia home to search for bomb-making material as the FBI launches an international investigation to dissect his life. As the morning wore on, a fuller picture emerged. The FBI initially could find no links to terrorist organizations. BRENDA HECK, FBI: We do believe at this time that this individual acted alone. THOMAS: As for the material in the backpack, it may be ammonium nitrate, but it was not the type that is explosive. And the searches of his home and car have turned up no explosives. Many in the FBI believe that this is the most immediate threat in the aftermath of bin Laden’s death: lone wolves showing up for revenge, Diane.
