House Republicans Show Up Outside of White House Demanding Written Proposal on Debt Ceiling

Click here to view this media The kabuki theater from House Republican freshman on raising the debt limit continues — GOP congressmen show up at White House, want plan : While President Obama and Congressional GOP leaders continue to negotiate a debt ceiling deal behind the scenes, several House Republican freshmen are growing impatient. Nearly 20 of them ventured to the gates of the White House Tuesday with a letter in hand to the president demanding the he immediately deliver Congress a written proposal to raise the debt ceiling. “Given the significance of our debt-driven crisis and the historic importance of the negotiations, we believe it is imperative that the work towards any agreement be as transparent as possible so that American people have a chance for careful evaluation of the process free from political posturing,” the members wrote in the letter. Rep. Tom Reed, who led the freshman lawmakers to the White House, told reporters the group doesn’t care if opposing a debt ceiling increase harms their reelection chances. “We don’t care about reelection,” he said. “We felt it was incumbent to come to the White House because this is a critical issue.” Members of the group added they will not agree to any debt ceiling proposal unless there are detailed spending cuts and timelines involved. Apparently they don’t think their leader John Boehner is capable of negotiating for them if they’re pulling stunts like this.

There’s still no word as to when it might actually land in some phones, but it looks like glasses-free 3D could soon see some improvements courtesy of Hitachi’s latest 4.5-inch IPS display. Not only does it boast a high 1280 x 720 resolution, but it uses a less common lenticular lens approach instead of the parallax barrier method used by the likes of the Nintendo 3DS and HTC EVO 3D. According to Hitachi, that allows for some much 3D brighter images than other displays (470 cd/m2, specifically), and images that are actually brighter in 3D mode than in 2D mode. Here’s hoping Hitachi shows off a bit more than the image above before too long. Click here to view this media I’m always amused when wealthy TV talking heads — people whose six-figure-and-better incomes pretty much ensure that they can afford whatever they want in terms of household appliances and other necessities of modern life — try to pretend that they’re just ordinary folks who understand what “middle America” is thinking. Even more hilarious, in a twisted way, is when they take it upon themselves to lecture those same Americans about the virtues of poverty — or to explain, as Fox’s Stuart Varney did yesterday, just how much better off poor Americans are now than they used to be. In fact, according to his guest — Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation, who has assembled his damned lies and statistics in a single report at their site , America’s poor people have a better standard of living than your average European. Right — if appliances were any accurate measure of your standard of living. This is just one of those pleasant reminders from our corporate masters that you’re never as bad off as you think you are. Why, Varney and Rector seem dismayed that today’s poor in America don’t live off dirt floors. If you keep pushing for taxes on the rich, that may be what you’ll get!
