Pakistan ‘gave China access’ to downed US helicopter

Financial Times reports that Chinese military engineers took photographs and samples from wreckage in Abbottabad Pakistan let Chinese military engineers photograph and take samples from the US helicopter that was left behind when American special forces killed Osama bin Laden, it has been reported. If true, the claim would underline the deterioration in US-Pakistani relations since the raid in May in Abbottabad, outside Islamabad in which the al-Qaida leader died. Members of the Chinese military were allowed to survey the wreckage of the hi-tech helicopter and take samples of its “stealth” skin, which allowed it to enter Pakistan undetected by radar, the Financial Times reported, quoting US sources. “The US now has information that Pakistan, particularly the ISI [Pakistan's intelligence agency], gave access to the Chinese military to the downed helicopter in Abbottabad,” an intelligence figure was quoted as saying. The FT said it had been told by figures close to the White House and the CIA that Pakistan had given the Chinese access to the helicopter. It quoted a figure close to the CIA as saying: “We had explicitly asked the Pakistanis in the immediate aftermath of the raid not to let anyone have access to the damaged remains of the helicopter.” There was no immediate comment from the White House. A spokesperson for the US state department said that it was aware of the report. Amid a worsening relationship between the two countries since the unilateral US raid to kill Bin Laden, the Pakistani military declared last month that it did not need US military aid after the White House confirmed that it would withhold some $800m (£492m) in assistance to the country’s armed forces. Pakistan in turn has expelled US military trainers, limited the ability of US diplomats and other officials to get visas, and restricted CIA operations on its territory. John Kerry, chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee, went to Pakistan weeks after the raid in a bid to secure the return of the wreckage. The US fears that cutting-edge military technology in the tail of the helicopter, abandoned after US forces blew up the rest of the craft, could be reverse-engineered in China. Pakistan said it would return the wreckage as a tentative first step towards hitting the reset button in the two countries’ badly damaged relations. Bachmann: No One Would Take 10-1 Deal During Debate Because the Cuts Were ‘Fake’

Click here to view this media Rep. Michele Bachmann was asked by Chris Wallace why all of the Republicans during the debate in Iowa were so completely unwilling to compromise that all of them would not even accept a ten to one deal on deficit cuts to tax increases. Rather than admit that Republicans are now so rigid on their stance of never, ever raising taxes after pledging their allegiance to Grover Norquist and that no sort of compromise will ever be acceptable to them, what was Bachmann’s response? They all raised their hands because the cuts in the deal would have been “fake.” WALLACE: Let’s go back to that moment in the debate, though, when you — and I’ve got to say, all the other candidates on that stage said that you would walk away from a debt deal, here it is right here, $10 in real spending cuts, to $1 in revenue increases. 10-1. Even Reagan’s top economic adviser, Marty Feldstein, said that is too hard-line, that that would be walking away from a huge conservative victory. BACHMANN: Well, I think probably Reagan would be the best example, because Reagan was going to get $3 in spending cuts for every $1 in tax increases. It ended up being $3 in tax increases for every $1 in spending cuts. That’s the way it works in D.C. The deal sounds so rosy in the very beginning, and usually the cuts are illusory, they are off into future years. And of course one Congress can’t bind the next Congress, and a Congress lasts for two years. So we can’t bind what future Congresses can do. We can beat our chests and be really proud and say, oh, we’re going to cut trillions of dollars, but we can’t guarantee what future Congresses will do. That’s why no one would take that deal on the Fox stage of the debate, because we all know that they’re fake cuts, essentially. They sound good. They’re soundbites, but they are not real. I am about reality. That’s what I care about. This is not a joke. This is not just a political game. This is getting the country back on the right track. People really are suffering, all across this state I have seen it. People want jobs, they want job growth, and they want someone who has the backbone to do it. I do. I guess by that measure, no one in Congress should ever vote on anything that can be overturned by a future Congress or those votes are meaningless. The truth of the matter is we’ve got one party that is so inflexible on tax increases that they don’t care how many lives it destroys as long as we never raise taxes on their rich campaign contributors.

Abercrombie Bans Customer Who Bought Too Much Merchandise (VIDEO)

The conventional wisdom is that stores want their customers to buy more, not less. So this most recent headline had us scratching our heads: “Woman banned from buying too much Abercrombie.” ABC7 News in San Francisco reported on a local woman named Kim Navarra who spends at least $1,000 a year at Abercrombie & Fitch, ordering everything from tees and sweatshirts and jeans online. But this summer when she tried to spend a $200 giftcard on the retailer’s website, her order was unceremoniously cancelled. Abercrombie & Fitch sent her a letter simply saying, “This order was cancelled and we will not accept future orders from you. Abercrombie & Fitch is a private label brand. To protect its intellectual property rights, suspected resale of our merchandise for personal or business profit is strictly prohibited,” a paragraph cut and pasted straight from their website. But it looks like the company was just bullying an innocent and very loyal customer. “All their clothes seem to fit and last over the years,” Navarra told ABC7. “I’m not reselling them. As you can see, I have the clothes on, I wear them to work, I’ve worn every single pair of jeans.” Abercrombie finally relented and let Navarra shop again when the news station got involved, maybe realizing that banning one of their most devoted customers was not the best idea. Then again, it wouldn’t be the first time Abercrombie has cut some ties that landed them in the doghouse: A&F once fired a male model for eating at the wrong time while on the job, while the company landed in seriously hot water in June for allegedly firing a Muslim female employee for wearing her religious headscarf. At this rate, Abercrombie & Fitch better have one damn good PR team. WATCH:

Citrix app opens Windows for Chromebook owners

Google hasn’t made any bones about its desire to position Chrome OS as a presence in the business space. But for plenty of users, the relatively limited functionality of Chromebooks doesn’t quite get the job done when it comes to doing serious work. The latest offering from Citrix could change that for a number of Chromebook-sporting business-types, offering access to Windows applications and desktops. Citrix Receiver Tech Preview is free from the Chrome Web Store (but requires a MyCitrix login). So now there’s no excuse for not getting any work done — except maybe a bad connection.
