Click here to view this media Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) is introducing legislation to create a “pilot’s bill of rights” because he feels he was unfairly treated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In October, airport construction workers told the FAA that Inhofe had endangered their lives when he landed on a runway that was clearly marked as closed. “He sky hopped over us,” airport construction supervisor Sidney Boyd told an FAA representative. “He was determined to land on that runway come hell or high water evidently.” “He come over here and started being like, ‘What the hell is this? I was supposed to have unlimited airspace,’” the construction supervisor recalled of a confrontation with Inhofe following the mishap. The FAA agreed to drop legal enforcement action in exchange for the completion of about seven hours of remedial flight training. “He almost landed a plane on a group of construction workers on a closed runway, inexplicably, but now he’s the victim,” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow observed Wednesday. “I did nothing wrong, but at any time I could have suffered the revocation of a license,” the Oklahoma senator complained to Tulsa World .
Continue reading …You know what that means, right? It means that Kingston’s on track for keeping its “July” release promise for the above-pictured Wi-Drive. For those who missed our preview last month, this is essentially a portable, battery-powered hard drive that’s meant to stream content exclusively to iOS devices. Think of it as a way to add more storage to a device that simply cannot accept more storage. Barring any last-minute fights with the number crunchers, this guy will ship for $130 (16GB) / $175 (32GB), and while an FCC appearance is no clear indication of “when,” it almost always means “soon.” Kingston’s iOS-lovin’ Wi-Drive wireless storage device hops into FCC database originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 07 Jul 2011 19:49:00 EDT. The recent 100th show of U2′s two-year-long 360 tour took place in Nashville at the Vanderbilt Stadium. Songs were sung. Encores were played. The

Continue reading …Eliot Spitzer used his last day at CNN to take a shot at cable news and decry the debt ceiling debate as a “new low for American politics” – although he himself was embroiled in an ugly scandal as governor of New York only three years ago. And he made sure to include a lengthy Constitutional conversation with two of his favorite guests, liberals Fareed Zakaria and Simon Schama. Schama, a professor of History at Columbia University, has criticized the Tea Party's reverence for the Founders' “infallibility,” and snorted that they believed the Constitution to be “quasi-biblical revelation.” The Columbia University professor wrote in a June 26 Newsweek piece that “True history is the enemy of reverence.” [Video below the break.] Zakaria, as NewsBusters has been reporting, has insisted that the Constitution needs to be updated to the 21st century. The CNN analyst has especially found fault with the Second Amendment – which he derided as a “grammatical mess” – and with the “undemocratic” state representation in the Senate.

For those camped out under a boulder the past day or so, the Xoom recently saw a permanent $100 price drop for the WiFi-only model, and eagle-eyed observers may recall a brief glimpse of what appeared to be an unannounced Verizon Wireless slate a few weeks back. Of course, having a storyline that fits is only half the battle, but with the IHDP56LU2 measuring 259mm long and 166mm wide, it’s getting harder and harder to reject any lingering thoughts that the Xoom 2 may indeed be on its way. For the curious, those dimensions are ever-so-slightly more compact than the existing Xoom, and it’s not just anything that gets hooked up with radios to support both of VZW’s native networks. So, what say you? Is the Xoom 2 really getting ready to bust your summer wide open? Or are we looking at the world’s largest LTE smartphone? Motorola’s LTE-infused Xoom 2 tablet caught skipping through the FCC? originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 07 Jul 2011 15:49:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
