On CNN's “Piers Morgan Tonight” Monday, the misogynistic comedian said that he hopes the former Alaska governor gets into the presidential race “so that they split the MILF vote” (video follows with transcript and commentary): PIERS MORGAN, HOST: If you had a choice, gun to your head, which one is it? Palin or Bachmann? BILL MAHER: I would need a gun to my head. I hope Sarah Palin gets in so that they split the MILF vote. For those needing a translation, MILF stands for “Mom I'D Like To F–k.” Classy guy, isn't he? And, of course, Morgan thought this was hysterical. More importantly, MSNBC indefinitely suspended Mark Halperin last month for calling President Obama a d–k. Isn't this worse, or is all fair when it's directed at conservative woman? Whatever the answer, Maher wasn't done: MAHER: But I guess Bachmann, I don't know. Who could say? Because, at least she's somebody who can read. You know, she has a job. She was a lawyer. She’s in Congress. She's not someone who just sits there and reads the prayers on her Blackberry like Sarah Palin. I mean, you know, we're splitting hairs here. MORGAN: Could Sarah Palin become president? Is it possible in the current climate? MAHER: Absolutely. Yes. People who say this one is a joke, or this one is a joke. I remember when I was twelve years old in 1968 and Ronald Reagan was first considering running for president, and I remember what a joke that was. Ronald Reagan? You mean the “Bedtime for Bonzo” guy? Well, I think he did become president. Yes, absolutely, because if she could get the nomination, and anything can happen with, I mean, this Republican Party is not your father's Republican Party. Somewhere along the line they got on a short bus to Crazy Town, and if someone gets the nomination of one of the two major parties, especially in a bad economy with a black president, yeah, she could become president. Honestly, what does it say about our society that this disgusting creature gets invited on so-called cable news networks to spout his highly misogynistic opinions?

Continue reading …As much as liberal media members pushing for tax hikes don't understand the fiscal and economic reasons for not doing so, they've been deceitfully ignoring the political ramifications for Republicans caving on this issue. On Monday's “Hardball,” National Journal's Major Garrett explained to Chris Matthews that if the President didn't raise taxes high enough for his liking when the Democrats controlled both chambers of Congress for two years, it's absurd to expect the GOP to do it for him now (video follows with transcript and commentary): MAJOR GARRETT, NATIONAL JOURNAL: Boehner and McConnell don't want to default, okay. They’ve said so publicly. They're in negotiations to avoid a default… CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Right. GARRETT: … and they’re going to try to drive the hardest bargain. What they're telling the President is, “Look at the political realities: you didn't raise taxes in a lame duck session when you had 59 Democrats in the Senate and almost 260 in the House. Don't expect Republicans to raise taxes we own the House of Representatives and have six more it Senate seats. MATTHEWS: Yeah. GARRETT: Operationally, as a matter of politics, that doesn't work. Exactly. Obama had two years of complete legislative control of this country – including months of a filibuster-proof Senate – to get whatever tax increases he wanted on the books. Now that the Republicans control the House, and have a stronger position in the Senate, it's politically untenable for them to go along with any tax hikes no matter how small, especially coming so soon after their victory in the midterms and with another major election less than seventeen months away. Doing so would be political suicide, and could result in a repeat of the shellacking Republicans took after President George H.W. Bush went back on his “Read My Lips – No New Taxes” pledge. Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh on Monday said this is likely Obama's strategy: John Boehner is Obama's lifeline to reelection. That's all Boehner is to Obama, nothing else. He not a golf buddy. He's nothing other than that. If he can get Boehner to ultimately cave, Obama's reelected. That's what he knows…He sees, “If I can force this guy to cave, I don't care what the House vote is. I don't care if I lose the vote. If I can get this guy to cave and put my tax increase for a vote, even if it loses, I win. And I get reelected.” That's what Obama thinks, because if Boehner caves, it's bye-bye GOP. That's the thing that everybody must understand. If Boehner caves, it's bye-bye GOP and nothing to do with the policy changes that might happen. If Boehner caves and takes a tax increase, folks, to the House and it loses, Obama still wins because the Republican base is so ticked off at that. Exactly. What Obama and his media minions are trying to do is create a repeat of 1990 when the Democrats and their press surrogates hammered Bush 41 until he finally agreed to raise taxes against his campaign pledge. Despite the media supporting this move at the time, they were all over him once the 1992 presidential campaign began, and assisted in fomenting conservative as well as moderate anger that led so many to vote for Ross Perot it gave Bill Clinton the victory with far less than 50 percent of the votes. Those that have been paying attention know that the press have been ridiculing Bush for this disastrous flip-flop ever since. Now, almost 20 years later, the Democrats and the press are trying to do the exact same thing claiming that the world is going to end if taxes aren't raised hoping to force Boehner and Company to cave. Once that happens, after initially congratulating the GOP for being willing to compromise for the sake of the nation, they'll attack every Republican during next year's campaign season – including Boehner – for their flip-flop hoping that they will not only get their beloved Obama re-elected but also give the House back to the Democrats. With this in mind, Garrett and Limbaugh are 100 percent right: if the Republicans want to be successful at the polls next November, they can't cave on this tax issue no matter what pressure they get from media members to do so. Intelligent people are supposed to learn from history not repeat it.

She acted like if only the Republicans were “reasonable” and accepted some “revenue” enhancements, then a deficit deal could be cut. House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy set her straight on why the deal as presented was unacceptable. Oh, Candy tried and tried to make a deficit deal agreement seem reasonable but McCarthy kept knocking her assertions out of the ball park as you can see in the interview video below the fold. Candy led off by accusing House Speaker John Boehner of engaging in a “bargaining ploy” instead of serious negotiation. McCarthy hit that accusation out of the ballpark while simultaneously stressing the sad state of the current unemployment situation in this country: CANDY CROWLEY: Joining me now to try to make sense of where things stand, House Republican Whip Kevin McCarthy of California. I just feel like we are — if I am out there listening to this, I want to strangle all of you. Why can you not get this deal? This looks to me like a strategic bargaining ploy rather than where we're actually going to end up, from Speaker Boehner. KEVIN MCCARTHY: Oh, I don't see that at all. Boehner has been very clear that there is no votes for a tax increase. And you look at the jobs data, it was only 18,000 jobs, Canada has fewer people than live in California, created more jobs than America. Crowley later thought she caught McCarthy in an error about the size of the Obama stimulus. MCCARTHY: Job growth in America today, start-ups is lower than it has been in 17 years from the policies of this president and this administration. He created a stimulus plan that created more than a — spent more than a trillion dollars, it cost $278,000 for every single job. I think we have to do a new direction. CROWLEY: OK. Just the stimulus plan was about $800 billion… MCCARTHY: No, with interest, 1.1. Oops! In the reasonable vs unreasonable vein Crowley then asked what the Republicans would “give up” since it appeared that Obama was willing to compromise: CROWLEY: So what would you give up? Let's put it that way. It looks as though — I mean, I think when you're looking at this, it looks as though — at least we are led to believe, the president has said, fine, I will put in entitlements, Medicare, Social Security on the table, and you all have said no to anything on the revenue side, sort of consistently. So what are you willing to do that will get these things back on track? MCCARTHY: Well, you want to know what we're willing to do? We're willing to set out a framework that puts America back on a real track, where it has tax reform, where it reforms the process. Then you close the loopholes. And then a painful reminder that the “reasonable” Democrats haven't even produced a budget since 2009: CROWLEY: … taxes between now and the 2nd of August when this debt ceiling thing blows up MCCARTHY: Well, you know what, we produced a budget in four months. You know this Democrat-controlled Senate, it has been more than 100 days. You go back to 2009. They never produced a budget. We laid out a reform to Social Security and Medicare to save them. The president has not. Then Crowley brought up “Bush tax hikes for the wealthy” although in her confusion by this time, she probably meant “Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.” CROWLEY: So the speaker has — the speaker could not — even if he wanted to and we're led to believe he was willing, the speaker cannot let go of, for instance, the Bush tax hikes for the wealthy because you don't have the votes for it to back that up, is that correct? MCCARTHY: Speaker Pelosi did not have the votes for it when they were in the majority. CROWLEY: So you don't have the votes for it, either. MCCARTHY: Speaker Pelosi did not have the votes when they controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House. Why didn't they raise them then? Because they know it is bad policy, especially in a down economy. Crowley takes one last stab at the need for Republicans to “give” in the deficit negotiations: CROWLEY: …But the thing is, there just seems to me that there has to be some willingness to give , and I have not heard anything from you about, yes, you know what, I would go — if we could get a deal that would cut 2.5 trillion in savings, I would agree to this on the revenue side. There's nothing on the revenue side you will agree to? MCCARTHY: Well, you know, Candy, I've never found one tax increase that created a job. I have watched our economy sputter downward. I've been out across the American public, they want to go back to work. And I know those policies will fail. So in principle, no, we're not going to go there. But I also do know that government has spent too much. They have increased spending 73 percent in discretionary in the last three years. I don't know any American household that has done that. So, you know what, this government needs to live like those American households. I'm tired of the gimmicks, I'm tired of the budget tricks and the accounting tricks that goes forward. This has to be an honest approach. We are at a threshold that we need to change. We are not losing jobs because our credit card didn't have a higher limit. We are losing our jobs because we are spending too much. It's not that difficult to do. We have sat in the room honestly with the Democrats, we have moved forward with them all the way. But they keep saying one thing, they want to raise more taxes. Annnnd….out of the ballpark it goes. This interview has to stand as a classic in how to respond when a member of the media accuses Republicans of not being “reasonable” by accepting phony deals offered to them by Democrats.
