‘Anonymous’ Trailer #2

Roland Emmerich’s new film, the ‘who really wrote Shakespeare’s plays’ conspiracy tale Anonymous, got a little prestige bump when it was programmed [1] as part of the Toronto International Film Festival. But let’s face it: as much as we celebrate TIFF, and with very good reason, a festival packed with hundreds of films is going to spotlight a few clunkers. Will Anonymous be one of those? A second trailer… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : /Film Discovery Date : 05/08/2011 22:30 Number of articles : 2

John Fund Pushes for More Austerity Measures on the News of S&P Downgrade

Click here to view this media You’ve just got to love what passes for “straight news” over at the Fox/Republican cable channel. During one of their “breaking news” segments after the news that Standard and Poor’s decided to downgrade the AAA credit rating of the Unites States, who did they bring in to do some “objective” analysis? The American Spectator and Wall Street Journal ‘s resident hack, John Fund . And what was Fund’s reaction to the downgrade? More austerity measures naturally. And what did Fund completely ignore? This tidbit from the report issued by Standard and Poor’s on their decision for making the downgrade. (h/t Jamie) Compared with previous projections, our revised base case scenario now assumes that the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, due to expire by the end of 2012, remain in place. We have changed our assumption on this because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues, a position we believe Congress reinforced by passing the act. Fund naturally thinks we should be taking it out on the hides of everyday working Americans to do something about our budget deficit. Ignoring completely that the Republicans have been the ones being absolutely rigid in their position that there will be no tax increases since they’re all afraid their Uncle Grover will primary them. I think we just got a preview here of what we’re going to see from Fox 24/7 over the next week as they try to explain what happened with this downgrade. No questioning of whether we should even trust the ratings agency that got it all so wrong before the meltdown of the financial industries and more demands that we go after Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid or these vultures will never be satisfied. UPDATE: And right on cue, one of our newly elected TeaBircher Republicans in the Senate, Mike Lee was chiming some of the same talking points in another “breaking news” segment following the one with Fund. Not only was he calling for austerity measures, but he was also still touting their ridiculous balanced budget amendment as well. And of course the problem in Lee’s mind with protecting his rich campaign donors is that Washington is spending too much (code for they’re doing things to help out working people and not corporate welfare or funding our military industrial complex) and they’re borrowing too much. And of course with him also ignoring that the wealthiest 1% are being taxed at the lowest rates in ages and that we have a revenue problem they refuse to fix. I’m just wondering how much worse things have to get in the United States before the majority of the public starts to get wise to these liars because they actually start paying attention to what’s going on and how ridiculous these talking points from the GOP are that do not match up to reality in any way, shape or form. Tony Blankley Sarcastically Says to Rude and Dismissive Al Sharpton ‘You Are a Very Polite Gentleman’

MSNBC's Al Sharpton on Friday was being tremendously rude and dismissive to his guest the always well-mannered Tony Blankley. So discourteous was Sharpton that at the end of the discussion, Blankley sarcastically said, “You are a very polite gentleman” (video follows with transcript and commentary): AL SHARPTON, HOST: What is the plan of the Tea Party to create jobs? TONY BLANKLEY: Look, the Tea Party has two policies they are trying to get. They want to reduce the debt and they want to reduce the size of government. SHARPTON: How do you produce jobs? BLANKLEY: Let me at least finish a couple of sentences. The fundamental problem and the reason why the public is so alienated that the entire political class obviously doesn’t have an answer to these problems, and we are getting more and more scared everyday. And the Tea Party is one voice. They are representing a lot of populist sentiments. You’ve got progressives on the other side having another voice. Nobody is coming up with a convincing policy prescription. That’s why the country is so scared. SHARPTON: Oh, I got it. So I ask you and Joe was quiet and I was quiet, what is the Tea Party’s plan and you just spent the minute telling me about how nobody had a plan. So, I guess the answer is: the Tea Party has no plan. BLANKLEY: I told you — SHARPTON: It reminds me of James Brown my mentor. James Brown used to say, it's like a dog knife, Tony — it just can’t cut it. You’re talking loud and saying nothing. BLANKLEY: You are a very polite gentleman. How pathetic. Is this really what MSNBC is striving for in the 6PM time slot opposite Fox News's highly acclaimed “Special Report?” On Thursday, Report trounced MSNBC Live attaining four times the viewership in the all important demographic aged 25-54. It appears that I'm not the only one in America that thinks this show with the perilously biased Sharpton as host is totally unwatchable.

Michael Beasley Push: Timberwolves Players Shoves Fan During Exhibition Game (VIDEO)

On a hot night in the big city, Michael Beasley lost his cool. Just a day after two-time NBA scoring champ Kevin Durant silenced a heckler with his play during an exhibition game at Baruch college in New York City, Beasley pushed a fan in the face after being heckled during a playground tilt at Dyckman Park in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood. The muscular 6-10 power forward, who has had the early stages of his NBA career marred by inconsistent play and marijuana use, singled out a particular fan in the tightly-packed area beneath one of the baskets. Beasley put his hand on his face and shoved him back. WATCH VIDEO AT THE TOP The New York Daily News identified the fan that Beasley pushed as Garland Quince, someone who frequents the games at the uptown park. “He just mushed me. He mushed me in my face,” Quince said. “I was arguing about a Kevin Durant call and he just mushed me in my face.” Coming on the heels of Durant’s 66-point explosion at Rucker and his heckler-silencing 41 points at Baruch, it was no wonder that he had the NYC crowd on his side. Perhaps the partisanship eventually pushed Beasley to lash out. Or, maybe it was just getting crossed up and blown by on this play: Of course, the night wasn’t all fisticuffs and broken ankles for Beasley. He delivered his own highlight moments as his 21 points lifted his 914 squad to 80-77 win over Durant’s Team Nike. With NBA Players Union chief Billy Hunter betting on a cancelled 2011-2012 season, Beasley and Durant in many ways represent the potential and pitfalls for the league as a whole. Both are preternaturally gifted athletes, but only one seems to have sense in proportion to his skills. Durant has inked a long-term deal with a small-market club in Oklahoma City and clearly embraced his role as an ambassador for the game while Beasley seems to be fighting both himself and, in this case literally, the fans who come to watch him.

Skype 5.5 uses VP8 for video chats, keeps the WebM love aflame

Despite forming a coalition with a bevy of companies , Google’s radical WebM video libertarianism has yet to take the world by storm — unless you’re talking El Goog’s browser or YouTube. Well, Mountain View can breathe a sigh of relief, as Skype — even after being bought by Microsoft — has carried through with its earlier support of the open-source standard, bundling it within last week’s Windows-only update . One-to-one and group video calls between version 5.5 clients now use WebM’s VP8 codec, succeeding its ancestor, On2′s VP7. Hey Redmond, who’s speaking Esperanto now? Skype 5.5 uses VP8 for video chats, keeps the WebM love aflame originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 06 Aug 2011 16:09:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
