As the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks approaches, NASA has provided a stunning new look at the tragedy—which was visible all the way from the International Space Station. American astronaut Frank Culbertson and two Russians were orbiting the earth in the ISS when they caught video of smoke…

AppSpeed Monster Truck is controlled by your iPad, iPad, iPad (video)

What Dexim’s tiny AppSpeed Monster Truck lacks in actual car crushing prowess, it makes up in Apple device compatibility — and that’s gotta account for something, right? The little RC car can be controlled by users’ iPhones, iPads or iPod touches, with the help of the company’s iOS app, utilizing the devices’ built-in accelerometer for 360 degree control of the Monster Truck. The car will be available for $69. As for the app, that will be offered for free through iTunes. Video and PR after the break, break, break. Go Figure, Ed Schultz Provides Most Inane Hoffa Apologia So Far

It's official — I'm an Ed Schultz fan. OK, well, “fan” isn't exactly the right word. Let's just say I'd be crushed if MSNBC canceled “The Ed Show.” After all, nowhere else on cable does not find such a consistent stream of idiocy that never fails to amuse. Not even from Schultz's colleague Al Sharpton, though the man is certainly a contender. (video after page break) Here's Schultz on “The Ed Show” Tuesday night, lamely comparing Teamsters president James Hoffa's vulgar thuggish threat aimed at the tea party with — ready? — the GOP labeling three of its aspiring leaders “the Young Guns” — SCHULTZ: Now, let's just turn the tables for a moment. If you don't believe (House Majority Leader Eric) Cantor and (GOP congressman Paul) Ryan use violent rhetoric themselves, let's go back to the commercial they cranked out just last year. REPUBLICAN AD: There is a better way and a new team is ready to bring America back — Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, Paul Ryan — joined by common-sense conservative candidates from across the country. Together, they are ready to make history. Together, they are the Young Guns. SCHULTZ (initially echoing ad): They are the Young Guns. What do you do with a gun? Just kinda hang onto it or do you use it?! I mean, c'mon folks. We all know that James Hoffa was talking about middle classers fighting back and going after the ballot box to get rid of the very people that have attacked labor that were in that commercial. Now where was the outrage when that commercial came out? They're the Young Guns. Ever heard of a congressional member being labeled a young gun? Where was the outrage when this commercial came out, Schultz belatedly demands. Indeed, where was your outrage when it came out, Ed? There was none, not that I recall, nor was anyone else outraged — since there was nothing to be outraged about. It's worth noting this feigned indignation is coming from a liberal who often boasts that he is an unapologetic gun owner and hunter. No matter — Schultz is incapable of distinguishing between the valid uses of a gun and those that aren't. “What do you do with a gun,” Schultz asks. “Just kinda hang onto it or do you use it?!” Depends. If you are a police officer, you might work your entire career, especially in a small town, and never once fire your gun in the line of duty. If you are a woman being stalked by an enraged ex-boyfriend, you might “just kinda hang onto it” and that makes all the difference. Or the person wielding the gun could be homicidal and intent on murder. You do see the differences here, Ed, right? If this is too complicated I can type slower. As for James Hoffa, those of us over a certain age hear his name and think instead of his father — the Teamsters leader who was, uh, taken out in the summer of '75 and hasn't been heard from since. The younger Hoffa may think it no big deal to engage in vitriolic rhetoric that can be easily interpreted as threatening, then wonder what the fuss it about during the uproar that follows. You think there might be a reaction if Hoffa suggested Teamsters take tea partiers “for a ride” to the polls?

‘Schweddy Balls’ Flavor Ice Cream Hits Ben <![CDATA[&]]> Jerry’s

We have a feeling you “won’t be able to resist” this new treat from Ben & Jerry’s. As was rumored earlier this summer, the Vermont ice cream company has turned Schweddy Balls, the fictional treat made famous by Alec Baldwin on “Saturday Night Live” in the 90s, its latest ice cream flavor. Ben & Jerry’s Schweddy Balls… Has a nice ring to it, right? You’re probably wondering what Schweddy Balls taste like. Well, according to the Ben & Jerry’s website it’s not exactly what Mr. Schweddy described on “The Delicious Dish,” but close: “Available in both pints and Scoop Shops, this flavor is Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with a hint of rum and is loaded with fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls.” Since people are obviously skeptical that this is a joke, B&J confirmed via Twitter that it is real, and linked to a TwitPic photo of the carton. Alec Baldwin is obviously proud to become part of an elite few who receive the honor of a Ben & Jerry’s tribute flavor, and we’re sure Molly Shannon, Anna Gasteyer and rest of “SNL” are too. They join fellow funny people Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and Monty Python. WATCH: The original sketch

Paul Hamm Arrested: Olympic Champ Accused Of Assault In Ohio

By Associated Press UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio — Olympic gymnastics champion Paul Hamm has been accused of hitting and kicking a taxi driver, damaging a cab window and refusing to pay a $23 fare. Hamm, 28, can be heard on an Upper Arlington police video telling an officer he’d had about eight drinks, WBNS-TV in Columbus reported. As Hamm sits handcuffed in the back of a cruiser, he asks officers to let him go and says, “I don’t understand. I’m gonna kill you guys.” Hamm is charged with assault and two other misdemeanors. He was charged Saturday in suburban Columbus and is free on bond awaiting a Sept. 15 arraignment, according to online court records. His agent, Sheryl Shade, declined to comment Wednesday. Hamm, whose hometown is Waukesha, Wis., is the 2004 Olympics all-around gymnastics champion, the only American with a men’s world title and an Olympics all-around title. He now works as an assistant coach at Ohio State. He and his twin brother, Morgan Hamm, also an Olympic gymnastics medalist, enrolled at Ohio State after the 2004 games and trained there until 2008. Ohio State told the station that officials were aware of the arrest and would determine how to handle the matter after it is dealt with in court. WBNS says a police report shows Hamm had fallen asleep as he was being driven home in the taxi. The taxi driver, identified by the station as Abdinasir Elmi, told a reporter that Hamm had unintentionally locked the cab door and was trying to get out through the window. He said Hamm swore at him and elbowed him in the mouth as he tried to help him open the window. Messages seeking additional details were left with Upper Arlington police spokeswomen.

Samsung High Fidelity Position app gives Mango GPS a Russian boost

Using your phone’s GPS to guide you down city streets can sometimes be a harrowing experience, especially in signal blackspots (or when there’s a mild breeze). Fortunately, there’s a fancy new solution — for some of you at least. High Fidelity Position is an app specifically for Samsung Mango phones that supercharges the GPS module with two upgrades to help positioning. The first leverages the on-board accelerometer and compass to help the Windows 7 device orient itself on congested city streets. Second is that it will now access GLONASS — Russia’s equivalent to GPS — pinpointing your location to within a few feet. When installed, the app is only visible in the settings menu, where you will need to activate it. We can also expect to see more of GLONASS in the future, since Russia’s imposing import taxes of about 25-percent on any device that’s incompatible with the Soviet standard, and manufacturers won’t want to take a hit of that magnitude on a feature they can use. Samsung WP7.5 owners who want every excuse to celebrate the triumphs of Gagarin, Sputnik and Laika can find the app available at the source link below.
