AMD said it’s bringing the new heat this week , but, in a classic act of showmanship, it’s teasing out only imagery today and insisting on making us wait until Friday to truly learn what the next generation of Radeon graphics is made of . For now, we have the full titles of its leading lights, namely the Radeon HD 6870 and Radeon HD 6850, along with plenty of pictorial evidence of their existence in a lab somewhere. We note with glee that the default output arrangement includes no less than five ports, including two DVI, one HDMI (1.4a), and two Mini DisplayPorts. We’d rather the latter two were full-sized, but it doesn’t look like ATI AMD had the room to fit them in. As to power requirements, the HD 6870 will need two 6-pin connectors to augment the juice it gets from the PCI Express port, while the HD 6850 will sate its needs with just the one . Anyhow, enjoy the gallery below and make sure to have your popcorn ready for the benchmark-heavy reviews coming up at the end of the week. Continue reading …Somebody’s going to pay for this : Almost three months after his daughter died, a Georgia father received a graphic cell phone video taken by a firefighter that shows his daughter’s fatal injuries. Jeff Kempson tells WAGA-TV that he doesn’t understand why a firefighter would have taken that video of his daughter, 23-year-old Dayna Kempson-Schacht. She died July 17 when her car crashed into trees. The Spalding County Sheriff’s office said a county firefighter took the video on his personal cell phone and shared it with other firefighters. An unknown firefighter took the video to a bar, where he texted it to other patrons. From there, the video spread. Investigators said they don’t believe taking or sharing that video broke the law. But the county is investigating whether internal rules were violated. This is very reminiscent of an accident that occurred near here three years ago this month when another young woman lost her life in a tragic accident . Official CHP photos of the terribly mangled girl were emailed by a CHP employee and those photos spread, were posted on websites, and sent via cellphone to the girl’s family members.
Continue reading …President Obama has accomplished so much during his tenure with so little gratitude from the American people, lamented the Monday panel for MSNBC's “Morning Joe.” What is to blame? Poor marketing by the White House, the panelists answered. “Where is the celebration over what has been done and accomplished in the face of all this anger and vitriol in Washington?” complained co-host Mika Brzezinski. “No credit. No credit at all for what he's accomplished,” lamented “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl. Like something from the novel Frankenstein, Stahl cast Obama's rescue of the economy as a doctor saving the life of a horrible burn victim. “He saves the guy's life – this is our economy…but the guy wakes up and he's got scars all over his face, and that's all he sees, that's all anybody sees,” she described. “And how – what's the doctor supposed to say? And that's what [Obama] is fighting, he's fighting an economy that just won't give him anything.” So after so much has been accomplished, why are the Democrats not campaigning on the Obama agenda?

That’s where the iGlo LED Set comes into play, bundling a WiFi-enabled strip of 120 multi-color LEDs — measuring some five meters in length — with iPhone and iPad apps that can control them. $299 is a small price to pay for this kind of portable party-making power, considering you just spent that much on a bottle of Blue Label for Steve’s birthday party last week… and that didn’t turn you into the most popular guy in the room. Follow the break for a full demo.
